This is tough to explain so bear with me, but everyone is aware that Salome isn't an Ojou-sama.Yea I know she have an out in the lore (similar to Marine who is a cosplayer rather than an actual pirate) but you can't predict how her audience might react once she starts showing more and more of her real self. I don't see her growing outside of Japan much, there's just not enough interest in niji JP (females) to get her any momentum.
She speaks like someone from Kansai, and her sense of humour is very crude and blunt. She super-imposes ladylike speech over otherwise unladylike behaviour and dialect and that's kind of the whole joke. Salome is someone trying to be regal and not doing a very good job at it. This mode has been her constant the whole time.
And while I do think that somewhat gets lost in translation (I think Oboretai has done a stellar job with his clips because he makes the speech formal even when she's talking about vomit and stomach cancer), I don't think it's beyond the scope of Western fans' tastes. She'll need a lot more to crack the west, though.
