I like how La+ was willing to cover up for Kanata only to find out she was pranked.
Any deluded viewer who still believes in Hololive having no relationships should watch that clip.
Attempting to cover for Kanata's fake yab, asking if she's okay with revealing it on stream - she knows and is thinking "others are hiding them, why isn't Kanata?"
But gachikois will come up with excuses nevertheless.

My two cents on the Mori rap shit is this: If she stuck to English and didn't try to force Japanese (A langauage she still struggles to speak) into her work it would come across better. Instead we get this hodgepodge where her flow is compromised and her English lyrics come across as gibberish - even for a rap - because it has to take in account a second language. I get she likes Jap rap, but it doesn't work for her if she refuses to learn the fucking language.
Mori's use of Japanese and English is one of the things she's most praised for. If anything when I listen to her music its the English that ends up a tad jank. Its remarkable it even flows as well as it does as she couldn't using two more fundamentally different languages. Ixm not gonna fault her for minor mishaps in the lyricism because of that.

Do you mean to tell me having a Duolingo stream once every blue moon isn't enough to learn a whole new language? It's never even something different like Memrise or Busuu (one of which has clips of locals and the other one having open tasks that other people can correct for you), just Duolingo. At the very least I can understand not bothering with Pimmsleur as much as certain people shill it, shit's expensive and I unironically fell asleep during the demo course.

I do totally get why this doesn't happen, learning a language requires a lot of regular dedication, and corpo Vtubers seem like they tend to have pretty busy schedules regularly. A while back Selen mentioned having a teacher and getting that one Genki coursebook everyone shills, and that seemingly went nowhere. It'd definitely be neat to see someone learn a language during their corpo time at least, seems wholesome. Nagao Kei seems pretty invested in EN, so maybe he'd at least try to go for it, who knows.

As for Mori, honestly couldn't really care less about the whole debate about her tracks. Some of them definitely have some awkward lines, whether due to the Japanglish or not, but the bop's usually good.

@konfident_ Did the autistic mini-melon's sperging really make you change your mind about Mori's content?

Whatever you think of her music, before or after Holo, Karen's skills as a rapper are well above average.
I tend to enjoy Mori songs for the most part and honestly have no idea about RAP, (I rather listen to R.A.C.) but when he went through DDK stuff it was pretty obvious she's amateur and a tryhard even without this dude doing AVGN impressions in the corner, it kinda speaks for itself when you look at those cringy, unsympathetic, self-indulgent lyrics that I've already noticed with her latest vent songs and it was the best music she did as DiceDemon so...

Ngl, the more I watched this stream the more it felt like he was forcing himself to hate her music out of principle than any actual dislike for it. Was funny seeing the chat trash certain songs for supposed "mistakes" or amateur work only for those to be legitimate parts of the mix that flow well with the rhythm and beat. Contrarianism is simultaneously hilarious and peak retardation.
At the very least it was nice trip down memory lane and see just how much she's improved since debut. Before there was enough jank in her music that I had a hard time getting into it, but since End of a Life I find myself genuinely enjoying what she makes.
Based Brad might be overly negative at times but he gave some legitimate criticism I tend to agree with like "Mori stuff worked better than DDK because she was having fun with it instead of trying so hard to be deep, serious and edgy" it feels like there is some internal struggle in this girl when she constantly tries to be something that she isn't.

She kinda has to use Japanese as Japanese rap revolves around how the language works.

Edit: Check out Nene driving, she's both Asian and woman, so it's a fun kinda comfy and chaotic experience.

She has a really good voice for symphonic metal, or dork power metal ala Blind Guardian or Powerwolf. I really wish she'd lean into that, but I guess I have to settle for Gura singing Sabaton forever.
I know these are more doom/proto metal, and not at all suited to their voices, but just for the meme I want Calli to do a cover of Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats and Ina to do a cover of Jess and the Ancient Ones

I probably could write a 5000 word essay on why Apex is ass and everything that's wrong with videogames, but nobody wants to read that, so I'll just say that the game is mega gay because you can't even drive a giant mech and run on walls.
I want to read it. Join me in posting autistically long diatribes that are only on topic because a vtuber mentioned it.

I don't listen to or like 99% of rap, so most of Calli's stuff never gets listened to more than once by me, but I have to say I disagree completely with this kind of thing. How is that legitimate criticism in any meaningful way? Criticism like that is based solely on feelings without any substance to prove that it's true. He's just stating his feelings as a fact and hoping people won't give it one iota of thought even if they disagree with him. When exactly do the lyrics transition from 'cringe and edgy' to 'fun and genuine'? Can he prove it to me? No, you can never know because those are just feelings you get and everyone experiences them in differing ways. Just to be clear I also feel this way about her stuff, even as Mori, but I could never defend my position as a legit criticism because it means nothing to anyone but me, or people that have similar taste as me and just inherently trust my judgement, but even then it certainly wouldn't be useful criticism. I'd say that every single person I have seen who has 'critiqued' Karen's stuff, positive or negative, has only ever gone on about how it feels rather than anything tangible. I'd love to see someone who can actually articulate a point without it devolving into feelings. It's much harder with music than other mediums, but I'm sure it can be done.

Mori is obviously an actual rap fan. I don't hate her so I won't say anything too unkind. She can do it. It's fine. Pop musicians producing almost only crap is normal. Their good shit's still good.
I'm not a fan of rap as a whole, although there are some specific songs that are decent. But the stuff I really don't get, which still gets radio play at the gym and similar places, is just monotone mumbling that doesn't seem to have any clever lyrics or impressive vocal skill. She's at least a good bit better than that stuff.

This.

Say what you will about Fantano as a person, but he's at least a solid critic who often backs up his points on why something doesn't work for him beyond being "edgy" or "fakedeep." Brad is just a hopeless, impulsive menhera with little to no analytical skills. He's like TheMysteriousMrEnter of music "critics."

RRAT: the one pranked this time was the audience because they actually are dating (La+ got two banana jokes in a row)
On another note, did anyone see that Brad and his fans were legitimately offended by, of all songs, this:

This shit is pretty funny:

To change the topic a bit i want to ask you this: How important is a Lore in a vtuber? or it is unnecesary to have one (or a heavy one).

To put my perspective, i think its unnecesary when people watch you for your entretainment value and not because how deep is your lore. Some people force a Lore in a character just to be taken more seriously or because others did it, specially big corpos like Hololive, but there is an issue: Myth for example didnt push too hard on a heavy lore like Council did, and we see the results now, Council didnt flew farther than Myth on popularity. In fact maybe the heavy Lore confused and scared people rather than keeping their attention and they forgot about it, even the Council girls were confused about their respective Lores in their 1st collab, it was way too much put on a plate that didnt needed to be filled.

Scru Face Jean has done that in practically all of his Mori/Demondice reactions, commenting on her technical ability, flow and rhymes, as he has legitimate experience as a rapper and can look past the fact that she's a white woman which is, let's face it, what pretty much all of the hatred towards Karen's music you see online--RYM and elsewhere--is based on.

I would call myself a Calli fan, I enjoy her streams and I enjoy her music. I still don't think she's a good rapper. Her flow is just... weak. When she does karaoke of well-known rap songs, I honestly think some of my friends could do better.

The fact that her songs are popular doesn't make her a good technical rapper. There's a lot of other stuff to like - the personal stories, the video animations, just supporting a fun streamer. Hell I actually appreciate the lyrics - they're dorky but that fits her character. Like I said, I genuinely enjoy some of her songs.

And in a way there's something admirable about having this clear vision that she wants to be a rapper whatever happens. I'd love to see her try some symphonic metal or whatever, I agree it would be a really good fit for her, but she's always been very clear that she's a rapper first of all, probably ahead of being a streamer even. In many ways that's a great attitude to have. But sometimes I wish she was more willing to go wherever her talent takes her.

It's just another gimmick. We've arrived at a point where there are so many vtubers debuting each month, they have to make themselves stand out. Lore is irrelevant, unless you're some diehard pro like Luna who's managed to keep in character for most of her career so far.
