Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Have we all forgotten the mastery and pure autism that was Space Chimps?
I remember the trailers showing up like clockwork on all the kids networks at the time, and how they mostly never left the early part of the film, just showing the chimps being trained, and even running the same jokes into the ground. I swear, I have "I am Titan, I am strong" "No one wants to sing along" burned into my brain.

I didn't watch the actual film until years later, when I saw it on demand, and I was surprised at just how much the trailers didn't show.

I’d say trailers shouldn’t show too much and the movie was entertaining as a kid.

I've never seen Space Chimps but this review is all I need to know

Nope, we still have 3 more 44 minute specials coming our way
Take solace in the fact that that's all those faggots are gonna get for a "third season".

It's almost as bad as Delgo or Foodfight. Almost.

Thought I'd bring some positivity to this thread and attention to a short animated film that's...actually pretty good.

Not how this short was released roughly around the same time as Chip and Dale 2022. Notice also how unlike that disaster Out of the Inkwell actually manages to be a well written homage to the golden age of animation blending modern and classic styles perfectly.

I don't like the owl house but I enjoy all the copium and seething it's early cancelation has brought, even though it wasn't canceled so much as Disney made the intelligent decision to trim the fat and force Dana to actually write a story rather than a meandering shipfic between her and her gf. Turns out making a show that appeals entirely to mid 20s roasties on tumblr leads to poor viewership overall. Who knew?

the worst part is how these fans are now trying to justify the show's bad writing because Disney cut them short, not because Dana is incompetent as a showrunner who didn't know wtf she was doing. S2 is such a trainwreck, too much filler, most chracters are useless diversity pandering and the main villain is literally just Bill Cipher again (except he looks like a shota for whatever reason). Should have stayed as an episodic Little Witch Academia knockoff.
And the biggest joke is how Hunter is the best written and the most interesting character who had better development in three episodes than the entire main cast in two seasons. And he's just a normal boy, not gay/trans/autistic or anything... The irony.

I remember losing interest in the show the minute it kneecapped its own premise to become yet another boring Harry Potter ripoff. Once everything online became 'Lumity blushing compliation pt. 3!!!' I decided to stick to Amphibia. Remember, one of Dana's own coworkers told her the premise for her show was stupid. Guess she should have listened.

The thing about white males, and why they're so prolific and usually better written, is that they can't stand solely on the backs of their character design or sexuality. Dana couldn't make 'is bi' part of his characterization so she actually had to come up with something halfway interesting for him to be. It's why media with an all-white cast tends to have better writing overall than most woke trash. Checklists lead to laziness.

That's not just an homage, that is the first time Bosko (the original, not that MGM bastardization) has been the focus of his own short since Hey-Hey Fever in 1935.
Or maybe not, the hat changes from shot to shot making it more ambiguous to me on five hours of sleep at 10 AM on a toilet.

No it should've stuck to being a Sword & The Stone knockoff. Eda should've stuck to teaching Luz herself and fufill whatever destiny they both had instead of chucking her into a magic school that both hates her and wants her imprisoned. If Luz had to go in that fucking school, it should've been to sneak in to get something/rescue someone and sneak back out. Traditional public schools/academies with fantasy/gay shit is boring and always will be boring.

REAL SHIT? :story: That's what the 5th or 6th woketarded project that accidentally makes the evil/unlikeable males way better than the main females we're supposed to like? That's another one for the therapists writing books on this shit to research why this keeps happening. My money is on daddy issues.

That's what happens when you're under a studio. Changes have to be made to suit the investors and advertisers, not the audience at large. Whatever Terrance had before the mouse got its mitts on it is probably no better off now than before. Another one bites the dust.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the only people who like characters Luz are usually dorks themselves.

Traditional public schools/academies with fantasy/gay shit is boring and always will be boring.
Agreed. On another note, why are people like Dana so obsessed with school settings?

My money is on daddy issues.
I think you’re right, there was actually an episode about Luz’s dead father. I noticed a lot of these modern writers have daddy issues, even the male ones.

They've read one entire book in their whole lives and it's Harry Potter. Schools also appeal deeply to the female psyche, cliquey, structured, popular or unpopular, women like Dana never grow up past High School.
I'll be fair and say they only obsessed over one entire book and that being Harry Potter. The Percy Jackson and Artemis Fowl books wished it had the pull HP did with teenagers online and offline (although Twilight came close I hate to admit). Meetups, forums, roleplays, fanzines, fucking puppet shows and bake sales! And God knows how many couples met through it and married because of it.

Harry Potter was culturally dominant. Until JK Rowling was too feminist for the nuPC troon crowd. And thus began the race to build up mountains of gaudy hack trash and edited fanfictions in hopes one would become the new HP but gayer and mentally crippled. Thank fuck the manga and anime industries don't promote and focus on one trick pony like the western mainstream does.

The general destruction of Rowling and Harry Potter's reputation is a good thing. I don't give a damn who's behind it or why, it's a good thing.

The impact those books had on a generation of readers can only be described as detrimental. You know all the crap going on with YA authors? Would not have happened otherwise.

(I never read the books as a kid because I preferred, well, books that were actually fun and entertaining.)

Oh look, another fucking bean-mouth style shitfest. Yawn. Also, Walter fucking wept seeing how far his craft has fallen.
These days all you need to see is bean-mouth to know something is going to be utter shit, drawn by lazy incompetent hacks, and written by deranged legbeard SJWs.

I just think to myself how an entire demographic and generation became so deranged, and then I remember cults are often born that way.

This statement is especially ironic considering a common joke was that both Amphibia and Owl House are basically the same show, from the superficial similarities in their premises to somewhat identical story beats.
The difference of course is that one show managed to tell the story it wanted to, had better viewing numbers, and was better written.

Apparently Dana’s father passed away so this was another case of writing what you know in modern animation. I don’t think the rise of single parents and found families in animation is a coincidence given who’s behind them nowadays.

Nah, the reason behind it is too stupid to ever been seen as a good thing (not that Rowling or HP are feeling the “destruction” anyways).

The books are fun and entertaining for what they are, you can’t blame them for other writers and readers having irreparably shit tastes. Otherwise we’d have to burn Sailor Moon and Utena at the stake for the influence it had on modern animation.

Remember when litterally everything got an animated spinoff? even if the source material was anything but kid friendly?
Credit where it's due the animation is trying to be like a mix of the old 1950's Ec comic art this series was originally based on with the color pallate of Tim Jacobus's goosebumps covers Which I'm pretty sure the popularity of those books is why this spinoff got green lit at all. also outside the original 50 comics this is the only apperance of all 3 of the orignal EC horror hosts; The crypt keeper, the vault keeper, and the old witch collectivley known as the Goulunatics.
