Directory tree solver CAPTCHA when?

To the same crowd, the ultimate plan was to begin open discrimination against Reddit, Twitter, 4chan and Discord users to destroy the influence of other websites on A&H. I stand by this step as being necessary for the health of the board and KF as a whole. The actual number of those people was (before April/May this year anyway) much smaller than I had anticipated, this plan could have worked had registration stayed closed.

Makes no difference now, anyway.

You lied straight to my face and still won't own up to it even after you've won. I was right about you, go fuck yourself.
I think having to deal with smarmy retards, their reports and appeals made you too blackpilled. You can't completely stem the tide of new blood coming to a website and, if you do, it will lead to exoduses, offshoots and endless inside drama (don't like somebody? They're from Twitter). Minor PL; I've been part of several medium-to-small communities that either withered or completely died because of attempting something like this.

In the past, Null has shilled sister sites to divert some overflow from here. I think there was an image board, and also the .cc fediverse instance. Are those still options?

Clearly the real answer is to send your drivers license to Null, and a $50 tithe, as well a promissory note to do that every single day of your life. Give or take the one day off a week.
True and Honest is only like $20...

Just implement some sort of automated trial period where a user has to log in to the site for X days out of Y without being able to actually do anything, if he puts up with it for a month or 3 he's probably serious and robojanny can give him posting privileges.
Neurotic spergs can't commit to anything so they'll be filtered out automatically.
I say this as an A&N goblin: The only reason I registered and logged in regularly was because A&H went behind the registration wall. If you make the site read only to newfags, you incentivize only newfags who want restricted content to sign in. I believe that would cover A&N, nudie leaks, and the prospering grounds. Is that the kind of person you want to filter for?

Maybe force users to actually read the FAQ before creating an account? I know I've known of this place for years but actually reading it and knowing to use a pseudonym to avoid links back to real life was emphasized in it.
There's a thread of "required reading" recommendations, some of which and entertainment and some of which are educational. Thread isn't even a sticky though.

If we wanted to do some mandatory readings we'd have to do like... A closed private tracker and put up a quiz. Pass the quiz to get an invite code, hope nobody releases the answers or makes a bot.

What is it with zoomers and technological incompetence? Was talking about vidya with an older coworker recently and he asked me if I had tried RDR2 online ever. Said I pirated it since Rockstar online sucks and a zoomer girl literally asked “what’s pirated like you stole it?” Another zoomer thought I was a hacker because I customized the sound profile on my PC.

I remember being their age jailbreaking iphones and running coupon scams and selling bootleg DVD’s. It’s like they have no sense of what’s going on behind the curtain when using a computer and can only interface with apps. I wonder if there was a similar drop in computer literacy when OS’s moved from text-based to GUI?

I believe the only reason indian tech scammers aren’t targeting them is because they don’t have money yet and their boomer parents would know it was a scam when they ask for dad’s credit card to pay the tech support guy.
I was talking to a 19 year old coworker yesterday who was mentioning they thought their TV was broken because he had bought the original Fable and the screen had black lines on both side now. They were convinced the game had a virus in it and didn't understand what I meant when trying to explain aspect ratios.

Most young people are actually retarded. You would think growing up online they would have access to all the information they could ever need, but most don't think to fact check, or research topics on their own.

Many zoomers are taught NOT to use infosec and leave a strong internet trail to show accountability and show who you are to employers. Many school projects force you to dox yourself on publically accessable pages. They are not taught infosec at all. I was not, I learned it myself because I'm not retarded.
I'm lucky to be born at the beginning of the Zoomer era and attend tech-illiterate schools, I was taught infosec, but I still slip up like a retard sometimes. Nonetheless, I agree with Null's decision to close registration for now to encourage lurking. I expected this when there was two mass shootings in the span of 2 weeks, if that, but I never expected chimping out to be that bad. Maybe I was just too optimistic.

Dumb idea of the day: Enable registration only for cock.li and lolcow.email domains and only when accessing the site through tor. Maybe also require tor to post before gaining access to TSIC.

People would register 29839384 socks before it's implemented to then sell them 5$
Imagine the tards that would dox themselves buying access but wouldn't even go all in for True and Honest :story:

Everyone can archive babe.
I would like to add that even redundant archives are great because if something changes later, the extra archive helps future researchers narrow down the time frame in which the change occurred.

I want to be groomed by @Meat Target. Mold me into your perfect little Ker-meat Target, Daddy.
Can I be his e-kid too? He's good to his parents and grandparents and dog and probably can be trusted to not stab his comrades in the back in the upcoming zombie apocalypse.

SCP wiki years ago used to require answering certain questions to register, the answers to which were contained in other important meta pages (like the site history page that went over the changes in writing culture). Pretty sure that was done away with given how shit SCP became, but it wasn't a bad idea.
There used to be a whole interview process too, I remember having to go through an interview with the jannies.
There have been cases during the CB radio craze of vigilante mobs trying to find someone who was shitposting on CB Radio channels to beat them up. Anonymous shitposting and doxing is probably as old as any form of remote communication, it's just the frequency of it has gone up since more and more people have access to it.
picturing an indian setting up a campfire and spamming “kill urselves nerds” with smoke signals at a rival tribe

They didn’t grow up online like we did. They grew up in an app-based environment that provides an intuitive tool designed for anything a user might do. You don’t have to download photo editing software to get a nice profile pic, just load up instagram and it’s built in. You don’t have to learn OBS and run a YT to be a “content creator”, the tools are built into Tik Tok. For the older generations, the computer itself was the tool and it wasn’t exactly intuitive sometimes.

Hell I don’t even pirate much anymore because it’s easier and more reliable to shell out $10/month for game pass.

I wonder if this is deliberate, do powerful people see technological literacy as a threat to the status quo like the Catholic church saw translating the Bible from Latin so the commoners could read it?

This is the fucked up truth. I've heard several people (of varied ages) go on about how a lack of social media presence looks "suspicious" to employers. I really doubt any employer worth having would decline you a contract for this reason.

I believe that boomers and zoomers alike are simply unable to see how the online world is fundamentally different from the offline. Boomers because they don't know internet, and zoomers because they're too immersed in it.

Heavily agree with both of these posts. This whole anti-anonymity bullshit that's getting pushed has brainwashed many zoomers into essentially showing their assholes without shame. Most of those high schoolers who were taught to "show accountability" will land in hot water when they post themselves doing something unflattering. Or they might end up becoming fucking squares who don't do anything fun because they fear the potential consequences. Anonymity allows people to grow by trial and error without fear of having their past mistakes attached to them wherever they go.

I'm glad I was taught not to give my name out on forums as I probably spared myself from a great deal of embarrassment. Hopefully the zoomers and boomers that end up getting doxxed and shamed/harassed for their lack of foresight wise up and learn the importance of anonymity.

On another note, hooray 2021 people aren't the worst anymore.

10 bux registration when?
Unironically this, if people want to get in so badly why don't they pay for it?

Good idea Josh, probably best to have a curfew for pride month to flatten the monkeypox curve.

As a side note it's insane to think that my account is already 4 years old, I still feel like a complete newfag. Probably am, just funny how time flies.

Not everything has to be a conspiracy, for better or worse, we live in a time where anyone anywhere has unrestricted internet access thru a plastic rectangle in their pockets. Unfortunately from this astounding technological advancement, anyone that can use the internet may also include the tech illiterate and people you don't like.

That is why my first suggestion is to ban all current and future phoneposters on sight.

i remember null saying on mati that zoomers are not any more technically competent than old people and it just proves to be true every day. even when it comes to phones zoomers aren’t very good with them
