I assume the only reason why Brianna knows that Heinlein exists is Frank. Wu is trying to do this balancing act between "gaming nerd + software developer" and "nth-wave feminist" and seems to fail each time she tries to get some credit in one or the other.

I can vividly assume how the discussion that preceded these tweets must have looked like:

(Wu household - Living room - Brianna is tweeting madly - Frank is gesturing in front of Brianna - The barking and whining of neglected dogs can be heard in the background. )

Frank: "...no honey. He laid the foundation for modern SciFi. Like Clarke or Asimov."

Brianna: (confused snarl)

Frank: "You haven't read him? He wrote books like: 'The Number of the Beast' a story about multiverses. Or 'The Puppet Masters', probably the first 'Body-Snatcher'-story about parasitic aliens! The one that started the trope."

Brianna: (inattentive snarl)

Frank: "Or 'Have Spacesuit - Will Travel' you might want to skip this one, the person in this one really wants to go to college..."

Brianna: (disinterested snarl)

Frank: (his eyes squinting a little with resignation) "He also did Starship Troopers."

Brianna: Snarl?!

Frank: Yes, like that movie with the giant bugs, but the movie was...

Brianna: (Shoos Frank away with another snarl, starts tweeting about 'Heinlien' right away)

I did a little looking around the UE4 wiki, read the design documents, even got the actual editor to see for myself (I've fiddled with Unity and other similar programs before, no expert by any means) just what Wu is actually capable of, based on the tweets we've seen.

My verdict: Wu's no more competent than me, who figured out how to do basic editing shit after about an hour's work.

All the crap about dicking around with the lightmaps, changing out meshes, and changing to a typing interface instead of QTE's: child's play.

The first is a very basic built in feature I figured out how to mess with fairly easily, and while I'm sure Wu had a few custom plugins and resources for his UE project, it's not some arcane art any asshole couldn't figure out after a little reading up on how to change lighting values in the editor. As for the meshes, assuming they were largely preconstructed by the people Wu outsourced (I refuse to believe that dumb bastard built them from the ground up, that takes lots of tedious work, and I know, fucked around with meshing before, and based on his art skills, I wouldn't believe him anyway), screwing around with them and adding minor tweaks and changing textures on them is not anything special either, any jackass that is vaguely competent in Blender and GIMP can do most of the same work easily.

As for the QTE interface, Wu simply changed out one blueprint (programming for a game feature) for another, and given there's a lot of prebuilt blueprints you can purchase and easily modify from their marketplace, I wouldn't be shocked if Wu blew some cash on one and did a little tweaking (requiring the same level of skill it takes to change some INI file values and maybe about on par with basic PHP editing, although we're almost certainly talking about C++ code here, though plugins are available for other languages) and called it a day, and given we're talking about text strings (and not altering integers or boolean values), I doubt the changeover from QTE to typed responses was that much work.

tl;dr: Almost all the original game code is likely untouched, Flynt's just been doing minor tweaks, fucking around, and simply rewarming over the same code for Steam as originally existed for the iOS version with what appear to be negligible changes aside from some game mechanics alterations (and even that's not a major leap)

As time goes on, all I get is the sense that John simply cannot release the game for Steam because it's going to be immediately obvious that it's nothing more than the same game with cosmetic changes and basically delivering none of the amazing things that John promised. And @Cynical I definitely agree that the majority of the work done on the original must have been by interns whom John burned through and shat on, and he no longer has an infinite gold horde to go through because he blew that shit on NyQuil and Final Fantasy figurines. It's just going to be a spectre that hangs over his head forever.

Not that that's going to stop cocksuckers from continuing to believe that he's a TRUE and HONEST game developer.

Heinlein tends to get something of a 'pass' in science fiction crowds. Not because he didn't have the politics he did (which is often called out, in fact), but because the guy created a fair chunk of modern SF tropes with Asimov and Clarke.

Not that I've seen. Back on Usenet not too long ago, the mere mention of Heinlein started huge political arguments instantly any time he came up, some going on months. I think it's just that these tumblrinas don't read much.

Who are you going to tell? Real software engineers? The numerous people that work with you in your "office"? Your husband? Your fans? The people that backed your port-ambition? The people that pay you patreon money every month?

You don't do any work as is, all you do is tweet retarded bullshit all day. You don't need an excuse to not work on your LONG OVERDUE PORT!

Who are you talking to you crazy thing? Yourself? Because you yourself said this:

You're a fucking loon with a damaged short term memory.

The only people I've met who say "nothing is impossible" are managers and idea men, not the actual workers.

From actually working in tech, it's more common to say that it can be done, but that you shouldn't. Wu strikes me as being that person who insists that network shares can be placed randomly about the boot volume, and that you can clean a blender without first disconnecting it from mains power. Just consider the following bullet points used to illustrate the Dunning–Kruger effect in describing traits of incompetent people:
  • fail to recognize their own lack of skill (I'm a software engineer/head developer/games developer/Palm OS development expert/text file haxxor)
  • fail to recognize the extent of their inadequacy (I'm an expert in Unreal 3)
  • fail to recognize genuine skill in others (stop mansplaining!)
  • recognize and acknowledge their own lack of skill, after they are exposed to training for that skill
We've seen everything barring the final point.

Yeah, and don't think for a second that these guys won't be after you eventually. All that needs to happen is the right person need to pay attention.
Did she delete that one already or is it just not showing up for me? It's really nice to know that no matter how much she tries to change her body and her images, she's still always going to be John Flynt the angry spoiled ritch brat that has no speech filter.
