Short version:
Why won't liberals and progressives address and denounce the widespread mass extreme oppression of women in the middle east? It's great hypocrisy that undermines their validity completely.
First, are you using this to say that Fuckbot's statement that "women want their nasal cavities smashed by an axe" is not a hyperbolic statement? If not, then I don't understand the relationship between this and my complaint that Fuckbot only talks in hyperbole and hubris.
Fair enough. That is certainly an extreme statement.
But aren't you being hyperbolic as well?
Even though the statements Marjan is making are excessive and extreme they aren't without any underlying truth.
This is a big thing with you that makes interacting with you difficult that I have already said before.
You like to be extremely technical whereas I generally prefer to argue and think in metaphors and analogy and that's usually how I express myself.
But for you everything has to be a 100% literal affair that is perfectly proven and substantiated at every turn or else by your standards it is invalid and incorrect and you will discard it.
I read what you wrote and watched the video, not sure you saw the same video. I'll agree, they weren't exactly condemning all muslims like you think they should, but I think you're reading into more than what was there. For example, you say that the people in this video think "the muslim culture and severe oppression of women is totally fine and they respect it." Toward the beginning one of the hosts said when you come from a country that oppresses women, then some of those people are going to commit these acts and there is a huge difference between these two cultures. She said that there are laws that these refugees need to follow and she condemns any one with those ideologies in this country or other countries. Did you miss that part?
Well this is good.At least we are having a actual reasonable discussion right now which is about as juicy for me as a lolcow probably is for you.
I am going to rewatch the video and give you real time interpretation of it so that you can see why I took it the way I did and why I disagree with you.
First she talks about what happened and just states the facts of the situation. That's fine nothing bad there.
Then she says it's unclear if they actually did anything wrong. That's also fair although it's already hypocritical since I'd bet that if the situation involved say white males at a college she'd probably adopt a guilty until proven innocent strategy. However I have no evidence to back up that statement objectively at this point so I will concede that right now.
Then she states the facts about germany letting in 1.1 million refugees and what Angela Merkel's response to the rapes by the refugees in this particular case has been.
Ok that's fine. She just stated some facts.
But right after that is when the spin and propaganda begins.Literally right after the facts get stated.Beginning at 2:10 in the video.
Her first statement is (not verbatim but accurate representations of what she is saying)- "This is not a representation of all islams".Slippery slope introduced.
Then she says "If people come from a culture where women who aren't covered are considered "asking for it" to a culture like Germany then they inevitably will rape some people. It's really a huge cultural difference that needs to be addressed".Notice that she makes no mention of the Muslim culture being wrong they are just "different".
Then the black anchor says "We do need to worry about wheter a safe environment is being created. But we need to make sure that people do not start to judge refugees and Islam off the actions of these small amount of men who are doing these things.Rapes were probably being committed by the native population before these guys ever arrived so we shouldn't judge the Refugees and Islam as a whole based off the actions of these few".Still no condemnation of Muslim oppression in the middle east by my knowledge.
Next female anchor says "We need to create a education program and require refugees to go through it before they are accepted to teach them about our culture."
And now here is her quote verbatim this time right after that:
"The education program is basically getting them accustomed to the cultural differences in this european country. So the way that you treat women in our country is very different from the way that women are treated in your country.
You know not to you know violate your own beliefs or whatever but these are our laws and you have to follow our laws."
This part really stuck out to me.Still no condemnation of Muslim oppression of women in the middle east.In fact it's the opposite here. It's respect for it.
The trend continues after this. There is no condemnation of Muslim oppression of women. It's all about just making the refugees follow the laws while they are in the country. That's as far as it goes.
There is no way you can be intellectually honest at this point and ignore this glaring hypocrisy here.
I literally rewatched the whole entire video a second time to see if I could catch one, just one condemnation of oppression of women in the middle east.I couldn't find a single one.But I could find condemnation of a US rape culture. There is also plenty of praise and acceptance of Islam.
She also ironically laments the rolling stone rape hoax as making people become skeptical to the claims of women that they have been raped but that's exactly what she does at the start of the video in relation to the women raped by the Muslim refugees. So make up your mind Ana,which is it?
Also they talk about how Muslims don't have a rape culture (false) but the US does.So remember the argument they make that only a small number of refugees rape?Well so does a small number of US white men.So how come the US has a "rape" culture but Muslims do not?
The comedian even tries to claim he "doesn't know enough about Muslim culture" to say if it's a rape culture or not.Huh?
Ana Kasparian even says and I
quote:
I don't think their culture is "rapey".
She was referring to Muslim culture by the way.
Toward the beginning one of the hosts said when you come from a country that oppresses women, then some of those people are going to commit these acts and there is a huge difference between these two cultures. She said that there are laws that these refugees need to follow and she condemns any one with those ideologies in this country or other countries. Did you miss that part?
I rewatched the clip and so should anyone else before they listen to you.You misrepresented this to fit your bias here. That is not an accurate representation of what was said.
They don't address oppression of women in the middle east they just address that you are expected to cover up there or you are asking for it.That's it.
To them in this video they literally verbatim claim that US rape culture is a bigger deal than Muslim rape culture.Come on now.
I am literally asking you supdup in the name of intellectual honesty, how can you not admit the glaring hypocrisy here for any reason other than bias and ego and the need to preserve a delusion?
All I am asking for is liberals/progressives to be fair and just. That's it.But they are not.
