I think the people designing this shit miss the point of flags. For the most part the simpler the design, tied in with the simpler meaning, makes a more effective ensign. We're seeing the debate in Australia where you get these idiots wanting to push forward over designed crap that is meant to represent a million and a half things, and it is all shit. For example:

-The border is meant to represent multiculturalism (african design aparently)
-the sun is meant to reprisent the Anzacs (stolen from Army's rising sun)
-rising sun over red is mean to represent Aboriginals
-blue is an homage to original flag
-Southern Cross is a common feature for Australia and South pacific nations
-7 pointed star represents each state and the territories
-the green around the star is meant to represent green and gold, colors of the national flower the wattle
-Currently discussion was they feel they need to add more to represent LGBTQ+
It is fucking awful and is an autistic mishmash of messages that is trying to represent everyone whilst acknowledging everyone seperately (a contradictory message)
Compare to the Eureka flag, my personal choice:

This was the flag designed for an event called the Eureka Stockade, where gold miners in victory protested British taxation and lack of representation of Non-English Australians (may sound a familiar cause). It was a protest of tax and a demand for democratic representation of native Australians in governance of the colony. It was led partly by Californians inspired by the American revolution, and the protest included Aussies, Americans, African Americans, Canadians, Chinese, Cornish, Irish, Welsh, Aboriginals and South Sea Islanders who were sick of British taxation. They got there arses kicked in the protest by the British, and a lot either got killed, deported or imprisoned. but outrage over the event led to federation in 1901 where Australia became a self-governing country as part of the commonwealth which wouldn't have happened if the Eureka Stockade didn't take place (we still need to become a Republic because we still have a bogan aristocracy who like to think they're British peers).
The design of the flag was from a Canadian, who made a stylized South Cross that was easily recognizable, that was based partly on the St Andrews cross of Scotland in protest of the Union Jack. The Southern Cross represented Australians (regardless of ethnicity) and the color and design was based on a firm rejection of the Union Jack. The Prussian blue also represented the color of clothes worn by most gold miners in Australia at the time. It is very much a fuck you to the old English acting as lords, we want a democracy. It is easily recognized, represented everyone at the protest. It has a clear meaning, and is a relatively simple design.
Fucking pride flags are the worst offendors when it comes to over design. The rainbow flag has a meaning, it is a simple meaning, and it is easily recognized. Redesigning it to make it about you, your current political cause, and to include things that have nothing to do with the LGBTQ+ community (like Black Lives Matter or the Ukraine) is an offence on both messaging and aesthetic driven purely by virtue signalling narcissism.
I don't know why but shitty flag designs are one thing that genuinely makes me MATI. It irks my particular brand of autism immensely.
