Some of the democrat governors are finally caving on state gas tax moratoriums because the White House and the senators and house reps twisted their arms. I don't think it will amount to much. There's a whole series of unresolved and major issues that led to gas increases and this moratorium is a band aid. I think the United States has already had 3 releases of petroleum from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and where I live, gas prices are at all time nominal highs here and well on their way to all-time inflation adjusted highs this summer. At the maximum, suspending state and federal taxes on gasoline and diesel would temporarily knock the price down a dollar. In states with low gas and diesel taxes lower than an average of about 30 cents a gallon and 18.4 cents a gallon federal, we're not even talking 50 cents relief against gas prices that are already up multiple dollars.
It is a desperate gambit at best.

Then the government will bring them back with a little more tacked on and people will flip their fucking wigs as gasoline goes up another 30 cents to a dollar or more.

Secret Service is a legit prestige position for very talented people. Not all of them, mind. They have their diversity hires too, but it's usually the outward facing PR sorts of positions.

If SS was pozzed, then they wouldn't need to try and make the Capitol Police into their new Stazi.
Theres also the secret servicr retirement package where billionaires set them up as their security post retirement. I metone who did counter assault for clinton and he was telling me about this late 50s triple figure millionaire with a dead husband who would hire ex secret service as bodyguard / fucktoys.

Why do you guys think biden is worse than trump? There's people that think trump is worse.
Go to a grocery store, then a gas station, then pay your utility bill and look at your investments in the toilet, there's 4 good reasons. We're being financially fucked. Even aside from foreign policy blundering like Afghanistan and Russia/Ukraine and domestic policy blundering like the border anarchy and an inability to even keep baby formula on shelves, it's really the economy.

I mean, i can gesture to the entire thread for examples of why they think Biden's bad, but the real short answer is that they think Trump was a good-to-middling president who was focused on practical necessities like supply and immigration with an extremely hostile establishment apparatus, while biden is a terrible president who's ratfucked core pillars of the economy with an asskissing media apparatus that won't hold him to account. this has resulted in near-parity between the two in approval ratings, when they're actually wildly different levels of competence.

According to GasBuddy, regular gas is on average ~$6/gallon in California, which leads the rest of the US in terms of gas prices, most likely due to a lack of refineries and needing to import fuel from other states over long distances. In Los Angeles, however, it's ~$8/gallon for some gas stations. Overall, the gas prices are worse than what they were during the '08 recession.

Washington D.C.'s gas price is about $4.80ish/gallon, I don't imagine a lot of angry people barking at their senators in the short-term, but things will get interesting when demand rises and the gas prices spike up even more for the next few months.

I don't think the (at this point-very tired) refrains of Orange Man Bad! are going to put food in peoples mouth. The Twitterati activists aren't going to pay your bills. The pundit class aren't going to fill up your gas tank. Who's going to do all of that? The idiots in Black Bloc? They'll just smash your shit and loot, and the pundits and Twitterati and sycophants and charlatans will cluck their tongues as they say its regrettable.

People can just look at one picture, an iconic picture to some, at this point. Any person with even a modicum of awareness knows this now famous picture. A picture of a man. Well, of two men. Two simple idiots, who were destined for more. They were to be used, as a focus point, to bring about GREAT CHANGES in our society, whether society wanted those changes or not. One of them is a police officer, taking a knee. And the other fellow, a simple, humble, African American man. And that man... Well, he couldn't sneed. And, finally, in the background of this picture, this simple photo that would be the flashpoint for GREAT CHANGE and PROGRESS, a humble gas station price board.

Because it's cheaper to snort a line of coke and run to work than it is to buy gas to drive.

Because all of the shortages are from an administration so incompetent they can't produce baby formula.

The Afghanistan pullout and looking at his watch during the funeral.

Giving the strategic oil reserve to other countries.

Arming Ukraine and trying to ban weapons at home.

Sending almost a 100 billion to Ukraine and telling the American taxpayer to eat shit.

A ton of reasons, and every day brings more.

Johny johny we have black female vice president!

We have a gay Sec of transportation !

NO MEAN TWEETS!

IF YOU DONT LIKE AMERICA JUST GO SOMEWHERE ELSE WE DONT NEED YOU!

So just pack up and oh yeah before the door hits your boomer ass on the way out be sure to drop off the kids/grand kids off at the gender confirmation center!

We are in the middle of a war for no other reason than the Biden administration doesn't want anyone to fuck with their piggy bank.

Trump was smart enough to keep us out of this shit.

And the President CAN influence gas prices.

He canceled gas drilling leases, made it difficult for refineries to be brought back after CoVid, and publicly declared his intention to get rid of fossil fuels.

So, yeah, he's responsible for gas prices because his personal policies have directly caused these problems.

And we're not in the middle of a war. That just shows how retarded whoever that was is.

We weren't a gas importer until Biden took office and destroyed the very system that kept us independent.

These people will just quit and stop going in to work.
I brought this up to my employer because they skipped annual reviews (thus no raises), stating how our company won't have any employees anymore because they'd be losing money just by showing up.

Of course, their solution was just to give everyone a $100 VISA card, hoping that will shut everyone up. It didn't. Most, if not, all of us felt insulted.

Lemme guess - your bosses get paid exorbitantly?

It does make me wonder what would have happened if Nixon really was as petty as people think he was. Imagine instead of resigning that he faced impeachment hearings and said the reason he was spying on the DNC was because he knew they cheated in 1960. Republicans would have been less willing to become the graceful losers we know today given how everyone loves mass surveillance of political enemies now.

Nixon resigned because the GOP told him they were hanging him out to dry and would vote to remove him from office if it came to impeachment. The GOP would have boldly submitted the most graceful defeat in all of political history.

They planned to do the same to Trump, but the problem is Trump didn't step into Mueller's perjury traps, and the Democrats impeached him for a transparently retarded reason.
