Interestingly when I went to college there was a lot of good conversation about whether or not intersectionality was a good thing. It mostly had to do with feminism in the Middle East and in Asia (particularly South Korea.) South Korea got a lot of discussion because it's a westernized country and still incredibly patriarchal, and the women there typically reject western feminism.
So the question was basically is intersectionality just another form of western colonialism or not. Since it's basically saying what we as western academics think is good is also good for women in South Korea they just don't know it yet. Unfortunately this line of thinking seems to have died out. Probably because it made people uncomfortable.
Well, it's not a good thing, because it just moves attention off of your own group and ends up making everything about other groups. So your thing was supposed to be about lesbians. Well thanks to intersectionality, it's no longer about that, it's about black women who are lesbians. White lesbians go take a hike. Taken a step further, now your thing is about black troons who identify as lesbians. So all real lesbians go take a hike. I mean maybe it originally had a point, like that being a black woman is a different life experience from being a white woman, but that's not what it produced in practice. It produced retarded Tumblr politics. lol And yeah, it has no practical application to other countries, especially ones as racially monotone as South Korea.
Hearing all of this really does recontextualise why you have so many more girls going FtM or Non-binary than boys. Jesus.
I blame it more on troons and straight troon enablers than asshole male sexists honestly. They've convinced all these young girls that they have gender dysphoria just because they feel more masculine than feminine or like dressing in butch styles. I don't think it's about them actually wanting to have male privilege or avoid male gaze. It's totally on trans bullshit theology that actually enforces hard gender norms to the point if your sex and gender traits don't match exactly you need to hack up your body until you match physically. It really is that fucking toxic. The fact that it has been dumbed down into a fashion trend just makes young girls even more vulnerable to it.
I live in the Bible belt and started getting catcalled basically as soon as I got boobs, rofl. In a county that's been pretty red as long as I've lived there.
If anything the noncery and misogyny is even more blatant here because fundies are still who have legislative power, and as anyone who's read Quiverfull General knows fundies are even more up to their eyeballs in sex pests than troons.
I've straight up had dudes try to get me in their car before, it was creepy as fuck
Well, that sucks. I'm not claiming sexual harassment/male gaze/boorish sexist behavior/etc. does not happen here, I've certainly been the victim of it, including when I was extremely underage (and from someone blood related to me, who now lives thousands of miles away ). I'm just saying stereotypical catcalling on the street just isn't common here unless it's maybe some high school kids acting retarded. It doesn't fit in with the attitude of the neighborhood I live in, which generally doesn't put up with people acting like assholes in public.
I don't know if it's midwest-nice or the city trying to keep its reputation as a nice place with a high rated downtown in tact, but people tend to not act like animals in public like that and yeah I find it really irritating when I go somewhere else in the country and that is the case.
I don't think I agree with you on living around fundies, which I know is a paradoxical stance to take in a lesbian thread. lol Maybe things are different in the southern Bible Belt opposed to the northern Christian Midwest, but I'd rather live in some sleepy town with churches on each corner than places that got rid of bail to let criminals that will rob you, rape you or blast you in crossfire roam the streets. Maybe this is my midwest bias since we go from one absolute extreme to the other. You have sleepy rural red towns with zero crime and zero problems save maybe for white drug abuse and under employment, then you have the these cities that have been ran by the same unending lineage of black Democrats for 60 years like it's some historical record of a dynasty pharohs where things get more violent and more apocalyptic every year with no end in sight.
But as long as I have my rights and can mind my own business, I don't give a shit if there is religious people here or who is in the legislature. Maybe I'm used to it due to coming from a religious background or I'm just so antisocial I don't see all the bad aspects like you do, maybe it helps that my SO hates PDA so we can blend in easier in public, but I probably won't change my calculus on where I want to live unless the Supreme Court goes full retard and overturns gay marriage, etc. and I'm literally forced to move. Even at that point, I'd probably still try to sneak off with my SO to some house in the woods somewhere because I don't like big city living and never will. lol
