A good 3D Sonic looks like it won't happen unless it's handed off, it would be best in Nintendo's hands. I'll be satisfied with good 2D Sonic games if they come out more often and innovate.
Disagree.
I would give Sonic to Sumo Digital personally. That studio has a great track record. Not only have they made great and bizarre 3D platformers (Sackboy and Snakepass), but they also made the best Sonic games of the past decade with SEGA Racing and Team Sonic. Small studio, but they honestly seem to bat more hits than misses and have great respect for IPs they are given.

I wouldn’t trust Nintendo. They already had some pull with Lost World, and the Mario Galaxy physics made it a terrible Sonic game. Nintendo also doesn’t really do 3D platformers outside of Mario. Sony would honestly be a better pick in that regard as their studios have done more with the genre than Nintendo.

Yeah I don't think Nintendo would make Sonic very well at first due to how different his style and character is from Mario's style of 3D platforming, maybe after a few tries if they give a shit to try at all and Miyamoto doesn't suggest something retarded like "What if Sonic, but you have to jog with joycons to emulate his speed?".

Sonic just feels like an odd duck in this 3D platformer space and only the fanbase can get close to making Sonic properly these days due to how autistic they are with this franchise. I only wish the actual developers could tap into that autism themselves, or if SEGA just gave a shit whatsoever. Either of those two things would be nice.

I'm no Sanic guy. I just like the Genesis games, man. Mania was great. What was difficult about doing Mania 2?

I'm looking at the IGN video and it looks like a boring Unity asset flip game. Fan games have done better. I don't like the 3D shit but I enjoyed this:

How fucking hard can it be to make a good 3D platformer with an emphasis on speed? Why the fuck does Sega keep Sonic Team around?

To be fair, Sega has been staying away from the "epic and serious Sonic" for a good 10 years or so now, if they're finally giving him a good story or a plot where we can see both sides of him, then it's a step in the right direction.
Yeah that's probably it, hopefully this is just a laughably horrible first impression and it's fine at release but I'm not holding my breath
This is sega's chance especially with the movie so they better not squander it

Not a bad idea, I didn't know Sumo beyond the Sonic racing games.

As for Lost World, it wasn't good, but it was one of the less shitty Sonic games, sort of mid-tier.

Nintendo makes more than just Mario in terms of 3D platformers, although they're much slower puzzle platformers like Pushmo & Captain Toad. I never played it, but I think Chibi Robo is a platformer too. I was going to include Wario World but that was Treasure, iirc.

Yeah, they have made quite a few. I just checked out their site again, and they have been apart of SEGA’s racing games, Hitman, Disney Infinity 3.0, Forza, LBP2 DLC, LBP3, Sackboy’s Big Adventure, Snakepass, and a ton of others.

Out of the titles I have played from them, LBP3 was the only miss. I don’t really blame them for that one though as they had to work with Media Molecule’s online infrastructure from LBP 1 & 2, all while Sony was rushing the shit out of the game for a PS4 launch. Even then, it was mediocre at worst, which really says something.

Then we have the other games they made, which damn. I think 2 of their titles are easily in my top 10 best games. Transformed was the Mario Kart killer for me and Sackboy can best be described as Super Mario 3D World, but better, less generic feeling. If there is any studio that could probably pull out at least a functional 3D Sonic, Sumo seems like they would be the one. I just hope SEGA and Sony continue partnering with them for games.

Pushmo and Captain Toad are more so puzzle games then platformers. Captain Toad was designed from Zelda mechanics, and Pushmo is basically Catherine for kids.

Outside of that, Nintendo only really produces one-offs, and they haven’t done many in a long while. DK64 might get a sequel from the Odyssey team if rumors or true, but as of now, the idea of 3D DK has been dormant since Rare left. Chibi-Robo was technically a 3D platformer, but once again, Nintendo abandoned the concept after the DS and opted for a 2D platformer instead. Then we have Wario World, which was again, a one title experiment that went no where. When it comes to consistency, Mario is the only one, especially past the Wii era, with Kirby potentially joining in the near future. To put it into perspective, Nintendo has made 2 3D platformers since the Switch’s launch roughly 5 years ago, Sony made 3 good ones in a year at the start of the PS5, and will probably get two more given that the ends of Sackboy and Ratchet hint at sequels, if not more given rumors of Sly and what not.

Because momentum is hard to design for or ensure the game doesn't shit itself with how fast Sonic is intended to move in 3D while having NextGenTM graphics. Unleashed struggles a lot even beyond the infamous slideshow section in one of the last day stages in the HD version, so while it looks beautiful the game has questionable performance even though it uses a lot of automation and linear design to keep Sonic in check. SA2 lets you clip out of shit or soar around the level (like in crazy gadget's last section), especially in Sonic's levels due to how whack the physics and level design are while SA2 is much more linear then SA1. SA1 really showed how giving Sonic momentum based movement lets him break the levels in half if he can get a decent vantage point to rocket himself around the level, which is fun but really jank by most standards. So they've since cucked Sonic's everything overtime in every 3D game since SA1, just put him in hallways so he doesn't break the levels, or use 2D so they have to try even less.
Seems like other people have figured out how to solve that issue better than SEGA have

Could've you at least embedded the vid?

To spare you 5 minutes of your life the blue blur is aromantic, which means that he isn't interested in romance and is an part of the LGBT spectrum (somehow.)
I don’t understand this pride shit one bit and I don’t know where to look for answers.

No. Then we would get "SONIC IS AROMANTIC UWU" but real.
Yeah, that was Treasure. God damn do I wish they still made games, they were awesome at making unique experiences. Sadly all they seem to do these days is re-release Ikaruga.
WHERE'S MY MISCHIEF MAKERS REMAKE, GODDAMN IT?!
Hey, I know this guy
I've heard Spark is actually good (2 in particular). Might give it a shot one of these days

I'm not the biggest fan of rails, but looking at this trailer, it looks like they're not using them as a crutch like Sonic Team loves to do. That looks really damn fun too, I'll definitely give it a go on release, especially if there's a PS4 version. I'm a trophy whore.

Brawl was the best of the series to be honest. It is getting a decent size resurgence too as being a top Smash title. Genuinely speaking, take out tripping and the game would have very little drawbacks.
No one i knew that played Brawl with me ever cared about the tripping to he honest, hell, it was a guaranteed laugh ala "YOOO THAT NIGGA TRIPPED GO FUCK HIM UP"

Neither the slower gameplay or the floatiness mattered, even. We had a blast playing it as a party game with family and friends

It’s by the guy who made Sonic Before and After the sequel (and it's DX remake) two games that I've seen a bit of but never played, one I remember is that there were Kirby power ups you could fight that of which being Bean and Mirror.

There's were obviously lead way to Spark the Electric's creation but they also maybe the combat aspects of the third game "Sonic Chrono Adventure" which I did play and really enjoyed (without really knowing what the fuck was going on.)

In a huge part due to Sonic having a sword in the game that which I liked because I was one of the only few people that actually enjoyed Sonic and the Black Knight.
the game was pretty cool.png

Anyways the first game was in the same style was the "Before the Sequel" trilogy which was part of the reason why I didn't really play it when I first saw it, just felt kind of like a fever dream.
very familiar.png

But either way it's still neat that he made his own game series that's inspired by two-game series that I really enjoy, not too sure if I'll really get into but still pretty cool.

i honestly wish wed go back to 2d (/2.5d) sonic for a while because the 3d games are just not working at the moment.

gone are the days of the classics aswell as Advance and Rush. I'd kill for a 3rd (4th if you count Colors ds) Rush Game.
or if they want to do 3d sonic take a page from the fans because they clearly know how to make better sonic games than Sonic Team (cough cough, mania). Sonic Utopia is how i'd love 3d sonic to be. its semi open world with many of little specks to explore but theres a clear single goal to reach to end the level.

The momentum in this game just feels right. I've not felt momentum like this in a sonic game (that isnt mania) since the Adventure Days.
yes its based of classic sonic so no boost or rails but it could be implemented if sega dont pull a forces where it feels boring to play. Instead of rails for the save of them, treat them like set pieces. 'rails' are just elongated tree branches and vines, or maybe ropes on boat sails, or even fences and bridges. they all function the same, but they just look a part of the surroundings. Boost can just be wisps or rings, whichever sega has a hard on for in that particular moment.

play sonic utopia. its more of a demo than anything at the moment but it just feels like this is how 3d sonic games should be like.
oh also, does anyone else feel like lost world would have been better as a classic sonic game than a modern one? Sonic's slower capped speed, the prequil to the drop dash in that game, no boost, and the parkour that's remenicent of the CD opening sequence and the art style. just feels classic sonic more than anything.

The boost technically exists in Sonic Lost World, but it's locked behind Super Sonic and replaces the Spin Dash in it's entirety.

I'd pick the Yakuza devs.
They've proven themselves with the Monkey Ball remake while not perfect, is considered the best game in the series since the originals.

They're also rumored to be working on a Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi reboot.

IDK if it's 2 games or a hybrid of both, but they make good shit.
