Not a bad idea, I didn't know Sumo beyond the Sonic racing games.
Yeah, they have made quite a few. I just checked out their site again, and they have been apart of SEGA’s racing games, Hitman, Disney Infinity 3.0, Forza, LBP2 DLC, LBP3, Sackboy’s Big Adventure, Snakepass, and a ton of others.
Out of the titles I have played from them, LBP3 was the only miss. I don’t really blame them for that one though as they had to work with Media Molecule’s online infrastructure from LBP 1 & 2, all while Sony was rushing the shit out of the game for a PS4 launch. Even then, it was mediocre at worst, which really says something.
Then we have the other games they made, which damn. I think 2 of their titles are easily in my top 10 best games. Transformed was the Mario Kart killer for me and Sackboy can best be described as Super Mario 3D World, but better, less generic feeling. If there is any studio that could probably pull out at least a functional 3D Sonic, Sumo seems like they would be the one. I just hope SEGA and Sony continue partnering with them for games.
Nintendo makes more than just Mario in terms of 3D platformers, although they're much slower puzzle platformers like Pushmo & Captain Toad. I never played it, but I think Chibi Robo is a platformer too. I was going to include Wario World but that was Treasure, iirc.
Pushmo and Captain Toad are more so puzzle games then platformers. Captain Toad was designed from Zelda mechanics, and Pushmo is basically Catherine for kids.
Outside of that, Nintendo only really produces one-offs, and they haven’t done many in a long while. DK64 might get a sequel from the Odyssey team if rumors or true, but as of now, the idea of 3D DK has been dormant since Rare left. Chibi-Robo was technically a 3D platformer, but once again, Nintendo abandoned the concept after the DS and opted for a 2D platformer instead. Then we have Wario World, which was again, a one title experiment that went no where. When it comes to consistency, Mario is the only one, especially past the Wii era, with Kirby potentially joining in the near future. To put it into perspective, Nintendo has made 2 3D platformers since the Switch’s launch roughly 5 years ago, Sony made 3 good ones in a year at the start of the PS5, and will probably get two more given that the ends of Sackboy and Ratchet hint at sequels, if not more given rumors of Sly and what not.
