I tried Spark the Electric Moron 2.

It wasn't the most terrible game but let me be clear: the game has some issues. Among which is the fact that the level design starts being very bad later on, leading to me having to swap between playing with the controller [as intended] and playing with keyboard and mouse [as NOT intended] during sections, because it was impossible to climb up extremely long buildings or race through escape sequences when the controller controls just didn't work out [and I haven't figured out how to fix that yet] and the keyboard could only do so much for some levels while failing at others.

I mean, it plays decently fine, but I think even Sonic 06 would control better most of the time.
I wasn't the biggest fan of 2 either, but I've tried the demo for 3 and it fixed most of my issues with the controls (similar to yours).

I'd suggest at least checking it out, didn't run too long and also taught things to the player in a much better way as well.

That's not the "gotcha" you think it is.

Blue and Red Spheres became a staple of special stages in the Sonic universe. I EXPECT that there. I do NOT expect it from enemies/bosses that you have to kill. It was dumb in sonic 06, it's dumb here.
Might as well go for a round 2 with this weirdass reply, still weirded out how you took a meme as me trying to make a point but here we are.

It doesn't really matter if something becomes a staple of the series, all that matters is if the gameplay is good and story is at least compelling, there are a lot of things in Sonic that haven't become staples of the series but that doesn't mean that they are inherently bad.

Sonic fans don't like overused nostalgia but from what I've seen it seems that's what they want, people don't like robots because they're different and would rather have the old Badniks back but if they did that then people would still bitch but just about how they were used for nostalgia.

I had all these points before but opted to keep them to myself because of how kinda burnt-out I am on all of this Frontiers and because of just how absurd the reply was.

Either way might as well end this post with a little bit of trivia, the Blue Sphere special stage was actually supposed to start with "Get Blue Balls" but was later on change by the game's testers in the final cut for obvious reasons.

The image I used was from a deleted mod for Sonic 3 AIR, it was removed because of the font of "balls" not matching the rest of the sentence, not too sure if there is a better mod out there but there has to be a better meme image version somewhere because of just how easy the joke is to make even by people who don't know that it was originally supposed to be in the game.

one thing I want to know, why's the game look like this? I remember sonic unleashed looking REALLY good, like one of the most impressive games of the year when it came out and generations looked pretty good too. I even went back to look at sonic forces and, aside from the stilted cutscenes, the environments look pretty good. They're detailed, they're layered, there's a lot of cool lighting, it's debatable if they look interesting but they're competently made. why's this one look so off?

Well, while it looks frighteningly rough, the combat mechanics themselves do seem serviceable, but again, a delay must be imminent. The real problems can be changed, like the bad enemy design, the slow pace, and the janky animations. If they streamline things and make sure there's variety, I can see this working.

I'm much more concerned about the world itself, it genuinely looks bad and Sonic needs to be faster. The realistic design isn't a dealbreaker if they can justify it with a good story, but I would prefer more...artistic effort.

I still can't get over how everything in the world just looks haphazard, bland, and random. The combat looks awesome compared to that shit...

About 10 years ago (this was before the release of Mania, mind you), I thought that Retro Studios would be the best fit for a new 2D Sonic game since their DKC games felt more like Sonic games than Sonic 4. Also, based on their work with both Metroid and Donkey Kong, it was clear that they spent a lot of time trying to capture the feel of a franchise and I thought such an approach would benefit Sonic. As for 3D Sonic, I think it would be pretty neat if they actually finished Sonic X-Treme, see if they can take that gameplay concept and turn it into something fun.
I think you're right, those are really great ideas.

Worst ending: Frontiers end up being 06 2: Electric Sonichu
With all the bugs in the demo trailer, it's really lookin out to be that way without even taking in all the other parts of the game. Not to mention how stiff the acting and storylines have been lately, which was the only thing 06 had in it that was positive. Maybe finally Video Game reviewers will stop bringing up 06 in every interview and instead bring up Frontiers instead while we watch Sega fumble around for another 16 years:( :(

As a person who got every S-rank on 06 due to masochism sheer determination, the fact that Frontiers looks even more lifeless than Soleanna amazes me.

Don't get me wrong, Soleanna sucks when it comes to being a good world, everything is gray/green with nothing going on. But if nothing else there were NPC's who wandered around with their "EY!" and "HRMM?"s. Frontier's as it is now looks even more dead than that. The world looks like a weird combination of Xenoblade and Death Stranding, which isn't good since the former has actual stuff to do and the latter is supposed to be dead and deserted.

It's a sad state of affairs when the world in your crappiest Sonic game has more life in it than your next big project.

I went on to /v/ on 4chan to see if anyone was talking about the upcoming Sonic game and this was the first image that popped up on one of their threads

At least we probably won't have to collect Sonic's shit, piss, and sweat to make grenades. Probably. Fingers crossed.

Unleashed HD is a very extreme exception in terms of Sonic's average graphical quality due to the circumstances at the time.

It was made using a very advanced, too advanced even considering the game isn't that stable even beyond the slideshow moment, graphics engine called "The Hedgehog Engine" which was used exactly one time and then scrapped almost all of it because...SEGA, I don't know I don't run a video game company.

This engine is why Unleashed's lighting especially was so advanced for 2008, it was some really impressive tech, but it couldn't be optimized well to run on that gen's consoles at the time. This is why the Wii/PS2 version quite literally just plays a video file of the cutscenes as opposed to running them in engine, because the Wii would catch fire trying to use The Hedgehog Engine. It took until modern day PC emulation to get the infamous slideshow section in Unleashed to run at a smooth 60 FPS and I believe last console gen the best they could push was about 40 FPS or so. Hedgehog Engine was really impressive, but very taxing.

THEN for some unexplainable reason Iizuka in his infinite moon brain decided

Takashi Moon Brain: "What if, we use Hedgehog Engine again for Forces?"

Sane person: "You don't have it anymore, you threw it away almost 10 years ago."

Takashi Moon Brain: "I use it again."

So this plan made some Frankenstein monster engine from the scraps they managed to recover that still is worse despite it being made almost 10 years after Unleashed, but obviously it is on much better hardware overall. SEGA would have to remake the engine from scratch using an emulated file to help them out (or just make a whole new one) to be able to pick up where Unleashed left off, because again they totaled their own engine after using it for one fucking game. SEGA is run by monkies, but we're probably all Sonic fans here, we already know this.

I sat there for 5 hours waiting for this shit and I didn't get a playable Emerl or Gamma and they added pride mouth Chao because of course we live in the current year.

What a rip-off, the very at least some of them aren't too awful but still really weird.

Anyways that the topic don't you forget what SEGA took from us, we don't even know how close to the real Chao they would even be but it sucks that we were close to getting them back but sadly they were going to show up in Rise of Lyric so of course their plans with them didn't go to fruition.

These things were brought back in Sonic Dash 2 but they weren't Chaos and just weird generic spirit things, I have a problem with generic looking things when the game isn't fun nor the universe or anything else, it was a shitty mobile tie in game for absolute mess of a game.

Seen people talk about "06 PTSD" it's kind a joke but also something I really see happening and it's understandable with everything around that game and it's stigma but Sonic Boom is the same way and it sucks even more because it will always be remembered it's just that mediocre cartoon or shitty video games.

Everyone at the time was against the whole reboot but I personally was fine with it and was excited for the game because of the return of other playable characters and multiplayer to go along with it, the day I got it was one of the biggest waste of money and time I have ever gotten.

The game wasn't even funny bad in the way that Sonic 06 with it just being boring and because of it being an alternate universe your attachment decide universe was by default less then the games and nothing from this game made it's way into the games timeline other then Sticks who I personally am not a fan of.

SEGA put so much into this shit and it all came crashing down that's why the theory about Sonic Forces originally planned to have Boom Sonic but was later scrapped in favor of going the safe route, this game may have not fucked the franchises as bad as 06 but it fucked SEGA hard when it comes to money.

And all of this could have been avoid if they didn't make the worse decisions like forcing the Rise of Lyric team to go with the show shit and not their own original plans while also completely fucking them over with the Nintendo deal something they didn't have to do but did anyways.

The worst part is that Rise of Lyric can't be fixed in the way Sonic 06 because it wasn't a game that was close to being good with its only real problem being that it was rushed, say what you want about the story but that's only a side thing to it, Lyric was so odd really butchered that it would be hard to even put it back together.

And it's nota game that a lot of people even the more mentally challenged wouldn't go through because once again it's just a mediocre game.

Either way I gave SEGA a chance back then and I'm still willing to but if they for real fuck this shit up again and at a perfect point for Sonic to make a come back of sorts when it comes to the fans.

But man does the game have some really strong Rise of Lyric elements, I'm not saying it will share it's or 06's name fate because there is no way SEGA is going to allow that happen again and as bad but still I see similarities between two.

The last thing I have to say is that it seems that SEGA may have done the same shit they did with Nintendo with IGN, not as bad but if they really did sign a contract with them to make Frontiers gameplay videos then they are retarded.

But to retroactively end this post on a light note, here’s Sonic 1 Boomed’s Green Hill Zone act 3.

We got Sonic Adventure 1 in 1998
We got Sonic the Hedgehog in 2006
We got Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric in 2014
We are getting Sonic Frontier in 2022

I imagine the Sonic game in 2030 will just brick your system.
I imagine Sonic 30 having a secret developer manifesto buried in the code that only activates when you boot up the game on the official release date. In this manifesto the man basically explains why Sonic is a piece of shit franchise now by blaming literally everything for a whole 30 minutes. I want some SA2 Gerald message type shit and if he can somehow shoot himself that'd be just great to really sell the state of this poor cartoon hedgehog. Double bonus points if he can impersonate a decent Sonic voice.

The reason Sonic Team doesn't find this, because this would imply Sonic Team gives a shit or is allowed to give a shit by SEGA.

What's the human girl who Sonic's gonna make out with look like though? And if there isn't one, does this means we'll finally be able to mpreg Tails? And if not that either, then who the fuck are they making this game for if not Sonic fans!?
Sega really wants Sonic to hook up with pink-haired women.

It's doesn't help that it feels like Sonic Team to this very day feels very inexperience with game development
Sega really needs to find better talent at this point
That's because they are. Look at the credits to Forces and you'll be shocked at how many of them got their start with Lost World. SEGA's problem is they can't keep talent.

If this is the best they can offer for the gameplay trailers, the full game will end up being worse. You can rightfully say a lot of bad things about Sonic 06, but at least their gameplay trailers hid the fact that it was unfinished and rushed for a holiday release. Now SEGA can't even bother to do that.

Also, don't trust anyone saying "it's an earlier build" and "they'll polish it up in six months". That's what people said about Sonic Forces, they were wrong, and that didn't need nearly the same level of polish Frontiers currently does. What we're seeing now is indicative of the final build.
