First of, GRS is regarded as experimental not because of it's age but because there's no standard procedure. Two surgeons performing the same type of GRS will perform two completely different surgeries with completely different results. Compare that with say knee replacement where there do exists a standard procedure that's followed in almost all cases.

Secondly there's no proof that the scythians had hrt. While there did exists male priests who adopted female gender roles, there's no evidence that they feminzed themselves.

The few studies that do do follows find tons of complications, which you would think would have some effect on self-reported satisfaction. And this is before you even start getting into the way the trans movement actively polices and suppresses its members when it comes to anything that could cause more 'gatekeeping'.

This is why I have never understood why transgender treatment is covered on insurance or socialized healthcare. By their own definition, being trans is an identity (it is an identity disorder but that is a separate discussion). They wish to scrap the pathological element of it. If that is the case, then pay for your own treatment. I am of the opinion that if this was no longer something that was covered by insurance or healthcare then it would stop being as fashionable. Suddenly having to find ways to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep up your 'identity' makes it a lot less appealing.

I had corrective eye surgery 21 years ago two weeks before I turned 18. This was before lasers. They cut both my corneas with a scalpel WHILE I WAS AWAKE. Best decision I ever made. I likely would have been legally blind in a few years had I not had it done. That's how badly my vision was deteriorating. Still have clear vision over 20 years later with no revisions.

It wasn't painful at all. During or afterwards. I can't remember if they used any anaesthetic. Afterwards, I just had to make sure to keep my eyes hydrated for a few weeks. But in hindsight, yeah the surgery itself was traumatic even if it only took 5 minutes. Lying there awake while you temporarily go blind.

Edit: I just recalled a vague memory of them sticking a needle into my eye to apply anaesthetic. May or may not have happened, lol.

Because there's no way to spin it. It's not like when conservatives try to ban books that show cartoon underage aidens fellating strap ons, they can go "the right wants to ban books" fully knowing most people will not dig into the particulars of the book. There's no way them present a higher level narrative that ignores the actual issues. "Conservatives don't want children in bars" Conservatives don't want children watching sexual dancing " "Conservatives don't want to let kids watch adult men cross dress" Nothing really works, and all of the accompanying videos make it worse. So they just try to sweep it under the rug.

It doesn't not work, but it's famous for people in the know for having many complications and negative results (some of which have led to suicides, see the link posted previously) that are suppressed by the industry lobby, and that are pointedly not included in satisfaction surveys because they don't track results over time, just rely on self-reporting. Because LASIK is sold as such an easy and risk-free procedure, any acknowledgement that the picture is less rosy will have a big effect on profits and business growth..... Just like SRS. LASIK, unlike SRS, actually does have uses, but in an ideal world, patients would go in with a much better understanding of the risks.
