Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

While the intention is to market and appeal to JRPG fans, primarily Japanese JRPG fans, this approach is more or less like catnip for these anti-social losers. People who get "anxiety" over having to play with other people, etc. are going to continue to find this game appealing.

The bloom is already off the XIV rose with the wider MMO community. The game itself is inadvertently becoming more of a hugbox for these retards, and given that fucking FFXI is still trucking, I doubt this game will 'die' any time soon.
I'd say it depends on where you are, but I'm a bit more tolerant of the fruits and shenanigans. Crystal is either quite social and friendly or incredibly catty, the bad kind of weird and cliquey, Aether tends to have speedrunners with some sociable sorts here and there (makes sense when you remember the majority of WoWfugees went to Aether), and my experience with Primal has been the best out of anywhere else in the community, discounting the huehues and spics that won't speak anything but Portugese or Spanish.

Going off of EU friends, there's more of a sense of humor instead of it being a mixed bag, with more weebs, but of there's still some gay rabbits and catboys there. I also haven't had any bad experiences with RP stuff or with people chimping out over swear words or being told to play properly, so I'm just lucky.

I know im late to the addon sperging but its very funny seeing the spergatory about the UI/DWM-esque mods like cactbot, or the ones that shove in all your CDs in a hamfisted way like ElveUI or Auras, when they all honestly just contribute to the absolute fucking screen clutter that makes MMOs autistic to play

Even with the tippy top content you dont need some faggy counter telling you how much time you got on delirium or some shit, just learn how your class works and use the already generous combo highlights faggot

Honestly the fact that FFXIV allows you to just mess with and fuck with your UI setup in a fuckton of ways pleases my autism in a way no other MMO has ever done, even WoW is gonna steal their Ui setup for their Scaliefag xpac lmao

This is true and I think it's really server dependent. The data center I'm on has an interesting mix of folks. I've been visiting another server cos of a friend and lurking in the Novice Network and it is radically different from my own home server. Folks will shoot the shit and, yeah, there's some folks who are your typical internet weirdo, but it's vastly different from the horde of no lifers that talk about 'muh fibro' and 'muh gender identity' and god knows what else.

These people, who are using NN as a proxy for a social life, also invariably bitch and moan about 'having' to group with people or are the first to shit on genuine new players who are legitimately asking for help. Hell, there was ranting for like a good month about how the devs 'wasted' time on revamping PVP and one of these weirdos would go into diatribes on the evils of PVP and how it makes games toxic.

Another server I've been frequenting due to cheaper Market Board prices seems to be a shitposting central, inasomuch as it is tolerated in this game.

Real curious how intra-DC travel is going to affect things. I kinda like the notion of having Balmung more or less quarantined.

So, which servers and data center is this?

My assumption would be that they wouldn't really need to visit other DCs for their RP stuff since the venues would still be at their home server.

The latest trend with Dragonsong Reprise Ultimate has been external sim websites like xivsim. I am glad I did not bother with this after clearing the tier.

There are people recruiting so they can run sims together. You're not even playing the game anymore, you're doing some external bullshit simulation on a website.

The groups I have knowledge of have had a myriad of issues with people using 3rd party tools, being inconsistent, or crying because they can't do their optimal rotation when they can't even execute the first half of the fight consistently.

These people shit up any fandom or community they're in. It's not just a FFXIV thing. Autistic cliques were a thing in FFXI, and fandom has become their social lives. The easiest way to trip up Novice Network on my server is to say that women are hard to date. The entire channel derails into incel posting.

FFXI did have a more socially coherent player base though. One inherent problem with modern mmorpgs is that with cross worlds, and how many people play the game, getting into a social interaction with other players is a mixed bag and has no weight. It makes all the people complaining about anxiety puzzling. I think this video best describes the problem.

As a player, you're disposable. People won't spend the time on you because there's so many other players you can play with. There are players I've spoken to for months who overnight stopped initiating anything because they found better friends. This isn't the same as IRL hobbies where you see the same people every week. My experience with playing sports, or board games, or playing video games with other people IRL is that people tend to be more helpful and are willing to put up with you. They will take time to explain shit to you, help you improve, or try to help you fit in.

Most gameplay activities in FFXIV don't require you to be social. PvP is solo queue. Story is mostly solo and sometimes you go in a dungeon with randoms off duty finder. Seasonal content is solo, so on and so forth. The only content that requires extensive cooperation is raiding, and even that has become incredible impersonal; players will recruit you based on numbers on a website, what you say you want to do, and maybe a brief trial/interview. I've complained about this before, but even in those situations, people will ghost you and screw you over because there's little personal consequence to them.

I looked up the XIV sim things and holy shit lmao, this autism is so advanced that i wonder if its actually fun to any of the people who run these in order to practice

It's a weird mix of people. You have your tryhards sweatys (either legit nolifers or addon users who are crippled), you have people who, if this were like 15 years ago, be on Second Life and treat this game as a mock social life and you have your anime/JRPG weebs who exactly as described on the tin.

Where it gets weird is when folks start talking about their gender dysphoria or their medical conditions or how they're working as a minimum wage peon and their parents are being 'toxic' to them, etc, etc, etc.

The whole anxiety thing I think comes from when these games weren't as 'massive' as they are today, due to both player base and server limitations. I hate the rose-tinted glasses attitudes regarding the 'community', but there is a grain of truth to those sorts of things. You scammed people, were garbage on your character, caused drama, etc.? You were going to get a reputation. Which was important because you had to invest a lot of time into building up your character and there were 'punishments' for fucking up (losing inventory, exp, etc.)

Nowadays? You can buy a level skip, change your character's name and hop to another server. And if anyone does any detective work to uncover that, yes, you were that Au Ra male grooming a 13 year old on Discord, the people who shone a light on that behavior are the ones who get banned because of harassment.

And of course, I'm sure all of this is touched on in the video you linked, haha.

This has existed since TEA iirc in varying forms. I have no idea why anyone practices these things together though, the point and greatest utility of these sims was to practice Ultimate phases without actually needing a raid night. It was effectively a way to practice moving your character around without wasting your parties time, which imo is an admirable endeavor considering how extremely tedious it is to get to later Ultimate phases (remember these around 15-20 minute long fights). So doing your best to "make it count" is a sign of an admirable team player who goes the extra mile, and one I'd probably do myself if I had the slightest patience for doing anything like this anymore.

If you can raid together, you should probably just raid together anyway in the actual game because in-game has other factors that can distract you and learning to work within that environment is also important and where it counts the most anyway.

I know we've already talked about that one solo duty before but this reminds me of how one of the main complaints I've seen online about In the cold was that it 'triggered their dysphoria'. Based transphobic FFXIV devs, am I right?

I recall that discussion when I dared to browse the FFXIV subreddit during the early days of EW discussion to get an idea of what people were thinking. I recall something to the effect of that this section should have had a trigger warning or just be removed from the game because the scene effectively did its job.

I hate this retarded culture where no one can write anything of any real punch because of easily triggered fuck wits. I'd even argue that if you had a genuine experience living in an occupied state, then pretty much the entirety of 4.0 is more triggering then anything in that instance. SB's problem is that its conclusions being too damn soft and the settings sucked, the actual punchiness of the Garlean occupation when you actually see it happening is actual quite effective and more 'real' then any dysphoric reaction you might get from In The Cold.

After seeing add on gate I'm 100% in agreement with this. The game has had the policy literally since it launched. You can find Yoshi-P saying the same thing way back during 2.0 yet these entitled stream fags think that they can do whatever and surprise Pikachu face when Square actually holds them accountable because they actually enforce ToS and they continue to scream about 3rd party tools. I've seen some of these retards yelling about how discord is a third party tool and Firefox is and looking up guides would be a 3rd party tool. The absolute jackassery of some of the people is absolutely astoundingly the fact they keep to antagonize square is only going to end one way.

Thats not to mention the unstable sex pests of a certain community that's flooded a teen rated game. The fuse is already lit, it's just a matter of time before the spark hits the dynamite.
I wonder if there's a word for this type of behavior where they think they are clever for pointing out everything is a third party tool. Kind of reminds me of the shit that happened with Inktober when the autists on twitter acted like the creator officially banned digital artists from his event when all he said it was a recommendation. Their favorite strawman is to say that real artists use quills or paint on cave walls and what do you know, they never end up participating. Never give these faggots an inch.

Well, you can still do that, you just have to operate in a sphere that isn't infested by the bourgeois. See, affluent yuppies are the bane and death of all art and culture, and every last one of the people railing off their pronouns and making up medical conditions is a bona-fide haute couture vulture. Big AAA titles don't stand a chance, and even indies are now stuck walking tightropes while a steady deluge of bloated "depression is such a big deal, sometimes I feel sad" walking simulators rains down from the heavens.

On the plus-side, fashion's never in fashion for long. This trend will pass, and some new hotness will absorb the hearts and minds of bored scions of comfortable wealth everywhere. We just have to grumble and bear through a dark age, not unlike what comics and movies and television and music have all gone through in alternating currents when this identical demographic of people were screaming about how Zappa was evil or Spawn was evil or putting black people on the TV was evil and yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah

The trolling part of me wants to point out somewhere that the game uses pronouns when loot is awarded and I wanted to make those genderspecial retards aware of the fact that every time you get a piece of loot, the game misgenders you.

I say this because one of the NNs I was lurking on over the weekend had a full hour long debate raging about whether or not trigger warnings should exist for the Hildibrand quests for genderspecial shit.

Then again, when a crystal linkshell was tried, like all of 3 people were in it because it turns out lots of people from the autists-laughing-at-autists website probably did fall under the antisocial umbrella.
"Feeder Fantasy XIV" was cool for a couple of days but no one ever talked in it. Hell, the other people in it never seemed like they were online.

It was deader than the joke linkshell I set up called "FISHIN WITH DA BOIS" which was exclusively used for private shitposting during ocean fishing expeditions.

Like I said, there'll be more opportunities to do shit with your fellow spergs once 6.18 is out and we can all go to the same DC.

EDIT: Yoshi-P touched on this in an interview, but I think overall the social features of XIV could use some improvements. Fellowships could be fully cross-DC since there's no real-time element to them and they could have things like proper threading and screenshot sharing. But they don't because the team introduced them and let them immediately die. Very sad. I hope they fix them some day because they could be a lot cooler.

I would assume that they would want to avoid shit like this because of people sharing porn/compromising poses of their characters.

Look at the disaster that adventure plates turned out to be in that regard.

I tried to talk in there for a bit, but it died out after a little while. I think I was still new to the game and progressing through Heavensward at the time - I recall still being a roe with a pompadour at that point in time. Why, I even still thought healing was fun!
Only now, that I find myself doing roulettes as 40-50% of damage as black lives matter, do I realize what could have been... Although even then, I suppose people posting here is no guarantee that they don't just drool on the keyboard. Still, I like the opportunity to build rapport with folks as "that guy who is at least mildly competent."

Have they given any particular details about how items such as linkshells will work with full-DC compatibility? I admittedly haven't followed the developments as much, because some more veteran friends of mine have convinced me that DC hopping is verymuch Duke Nukem Forever in that it's always around the corner and never coming out.

According to the lodestone post, linkshells on your home DC won't work but you'll be able to create and join linkshells on the destination DC as if your character were on that DC. From the way they phrase it, I imagine you'll have separate slots for each of the logical DCs so you'll be able to make and join linkshells without impacting your maximum limit on your home DC. You'll also be able to add friends to your list while visiting.
