Selecting a Despot for the Autism Thunderdome

shit idea.png

I'd unironically back this, but I have an established track record of saying and doing some very stupid things.

I leave the pitch in an ambulance or not at all.

There is no leaving in tears.
That's a good attitude to have but I need to ask, have you spent any time posting on there at all? Not meant as a slight mind, just there are cycles the big threads have, things to watch out for, things that are run of the mill.
I support 789 / @Sevenatenine. She's based. picrelView attachment 3357305
see absolute retard things posts like these should be stomped to death much like depicted above.
Just fucking lurk in A&H if you can't add anything productive. You lurked before signing up. How hard is that?

Seriously. Treat the board like it's the only fun AND reliable news aggregation source that exists, because it's the best we have right now. People who never read the room never will, and just laugh at them.
most of the new accounts didn't

That's not retardation. That's insanity.
Each side gets a mix of smart trolls and thought-provoking posters, and they report directly to someone who has a deserved reputation for being a scholar and a gentleman. You don't want a mod team that's monocultural or you get ResetEra or RPGnet all over again.

Also if a mod team like that can learn to work together despite their differences, then there's hope for us all. And isn't that what the Thunderdome needs? Good role models?

I spend very little time in A&H and well, I'm basically a nobody on the site still too, but for the fuck of it i'l contribute my two cents.

My thoughts on A&H is that it has two distinct clashing purposes.
1) Be a place where anyone can speak their mind on current day issues.
2) Be a genuine informative source on developing events.

With our current situation these purposes can be contradictory at times. However both of these are integral to the sites identity as far as i'm concerned. If I could implement one change to the board, it would be creating "Information Threads" which only allow sourced information, and "Commentary Threads" for the discussion/sperging. As a user I want to be able to read about what happend without digging through "FBI HOAX FALSE FLAG OMFGWTFBBQSNEED" for 6 pages. Maybe posts could be added to highlights in A&H by their informative rating? Perhaps a second highlight feature alltogether? Although that's susceptible to abuse mods could focus on cleaning the informative highlights

Or perhaps its an awful idea, I don't know shit.

The best idea in this thread has still been the one about making a squad of secret jannies to serve as nulls own secret police, squashing dissidents and fucking with everyone. Any poster could disappear from a thread and no explanation would ever be given because there wouldn't be a record of a mod there. Just poof. Suddenly people's posts start saying different shit with no edit notes on them. Chaos ensues. Only the strong survive.
Sounds fun.

Jesus Christ. People are still talking about this?

Here's my solution. Hide the Autistic Thunderdome forums from anyone who complains about the Autistic Thunderdome forums. Problem solved!
You've hit on a good solution there. It can probably be expanded to an option to allow users to hide boards or discussions they don't want to see. Similar to blocking but for boards.

As for the mod decision, consider me. I'm a newfag and predominantly phoneposter who is inactive over weekends and parts of the weekday, so the board will remain mostly unchanged except I'll occassionally step in and abuse my power. I think it'd be a net positive for the board.

A&N is reflective of media news cycles. Go on any website in the morning, and by the afternoon will be a slew of new articles. Every site has some inflammatory bias that makes you so angry you have to click it. The thread cycle is too quick. Most replies past a page or two are not worth reading. Maybe to harbor discussion, create more mega-ish threads about topics.
I do like A&H but you can scroll though the headlines and know what each article says and what the replies are before you click. I feel like reporting posts in threads older than a day does nothing because poof it's already buried 2 pages down.

Although usually I am not the asshole first. Once someone calls me a name or something, then it's gloves off
You literally are the asshole first. You come into a thread, start lobbing hackneyed ad homs, and then run away crying to Null that the mean nasty A&Hers hurt your fees fees. Your entire persona is based around that, and there's a reason why I personally never choose to take anything you say seriously.

As for solutions, there probably nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. I definitely would be sad to see A&H be completely permabanned or nuked to the extent some oldfags like the Hulkster here seem to want, but I get it if that particular section is radioactive enough where it needs greater containment. Some actual moderation may be helpful, or maybe restricting entry immediately after some big news event just so you don't get a mass rush of redditards or /pol/acks coming in to shit up the threads, but other than that I think anything else would be overkill.

As expected, this thread degenerated into a fucking shitshow. Fuck me.
Serious post, after 90 pages, it seems @Null has 3 options:

1. Change little, adapt a lax moderation with some literal janitorial staff to merge threads and look out for illegal content

2. Bring in hardcore moderation with a ton of rules, elaborate point systems, bannings, and possible stipulations like posting restrictions and forcible mandates for people who mostly post in AT to participate in LOL Cow threads or be banned. And a moderation staff that is leftist or mixed to enforce this.

3. Delete AT and declare this is a non political site that mocks internet personalities and doesn't discuss current events

I don't envy him his choices.

@Null, if your biggest issue is with reactionary posters who join solely to shitfling in A&H, honestly I think 80% of that would be solved without major changes to moderation by instituting a 1-3 month delay after account creation before even being able to see A&H, and a total 1 year delay after account creation before being allowed to post there, + probably other requirements as well such as post count/account level/account standing.

And of course also retroactively take that privilege away from currently <1year accounts as well.

People should be allowed to join the forum and post to it. I'm hoping for a way to have off-topic boards be a part of the site that everyone can use.

All off-topic boards used to be private, but they were opened to do two things:
1) Indicate to guests that we are not completely insane and do have other interests, which is something I thought about the CWCki Forums in 2012 when I first joined and saw zero off-topic boards.
2) Allow areas of the site I am actually interested in to grow because I know "lax moderation but not complete shit" is a currently in-demand sector of the Internet.

If you go to 4chan, basically every board complains about how shit the board is. There's still good users flaking off of old, rotting communities that deformed after 2016. I'd like to keep the door open.

I would be able to stop reading 4chan entirely if the few good users from boards like /biz/ and /g/ could find accommodation here.
