Selecting a Despot for the Autism Thunderdome

1) Indicate to guests that we are not completely insane
Noble goal in theory but the fact that you made this thread makes me feel that you think A&H is doing the exact opposite of this.

I definitely agree that the normal off-topic interest boards should be free for all users to view and post, but from everything you’ve written it sounds like you don’t want to attract new users who come here exclusively for A&H. In your opinion, is it even possible for an exclusive A&H-poster to be a “good user”? If not, then IMO restricting posting privileges will not significantly deter “good refugees” from 4chan etc. because they’ll have other subforums to occupy them, while it’ll greatly stem the tide of shitty rapefugees that you don’t want on the forum in the first place.

I guess my question is, do you want the rapefugees to integrate into the forum culture (….they never will, FYI), or do you want them to not encroach on the sacred Kiwi borders in the first place? My proposed solution helps deal with the latter… the former would be extremely difficult if not impossible.

Good to see you in here @Null. Must be like chewing broken glass to deal with this stuff.
I may be a dumbass newfag guilty of writing some stupid shit on the site, but in my opinion, 90% of the Thunderdome's issues come down to this:

Too many people have forgotten what's in the red box above, and I include myself in that cohort, at times.
A refresher on these wouldn't hurt anyone, nor would an additional rule that all complaints to the mod team about stickers get an automatic three-day posting ban, no exceptions.

Oh and whoever the despot and team is, all decisions and bans they make should come from a central, anonymous account (hopefully preventing doxing), and their decisions reviewable for appeal by the greater mod team. Bans and punishments should come with a brief public explanation, and an appeal process (unless especially egregious).

I know you believe in free speech. I do too.
I also believe in the right to bear arms, but it's not smart to give a shotgun to a toddler. And we have a lot of shotgun toddlers on KF, in a free speech sense.

I'm not rushing to any decision and neither is anyone else. I consider the month without registrations an ideal time to start playing with this structure. There's someone considering if they want to help and if he agrees I have a list of mods I want him + extant staff to look at.
Just out of curiosity, are there any plans for expanding sneed/ruforo to grant staff more options to fine-tune issues in boards, or is it solely looking at expanding manpower for moderation that's on the table right now?

I recently commented about this is another thread, but I feel like an important feature that too many people forget to use is the Ignore feature. Before people go flying off into sperg-tastic spiral of ranting and thread derailing, people need to consider using the very handy ignore feature to remove irritants from their own eyes before demanding via reports that said poster be banned completely.

The button is right there, I just wish more people would use it.

yes. there is a lot to be desired with the moderation. XenForo is managed by like a couple of dudes. we are one of the larger communities using their software. despite that they always ignored me. After 3+ years, we still do not have a way to make attachments insert as thumbnails by default.

That's a good attitude to have but I need to ask, have you spent any time posting on there at all? Not meant as a slight mind, just there are cycles the big threads have, things to watch out for, things that are run of the mill.
In the Canadian trucker thread. I triggered several bouts of anti corporate doomerism by being a sad girl, but then I delivered hugs and encouragement to get people back on track.

That thread burns on, healthy as any other.

Are the PowerPoints helping with the decision?

I'd like to offer my services in helping the jannies to come up with insulting name changes/avatar changes/title changes for people who do dumb shit like abuse the report feature. I'll leave the actual janny work for @Hollywood Hulk Hogan or unironically @JosephStalin. Can already think of a few people who need titles such as "Putin Fan #1" or "Proud Supporter of the State of Israel."

Are you high? That would probably be the worst pick. He's histrionic and completely humorless.
People have already BEEN picked!

And the problem is, sort of like @Stoneheart as an example of a potential mod, is that these people are often better as posters than moderators, not because they'd make bad mods but because modding is an absolute shit thing to do, and mostly completely unenjoyable. I can't imagine what kind of weirdo would actually enjoy it. Actually I can, just look at the reddit thread.
uhhh im a good poster?

also me a mod?

Well I’m glad you managed to find a potential despot in the chaos of this thread.

Placing @Hollywood Hulk Hogan as the chief moderator to reduce sperging is about the same as making Nina Jankowicz the head of a government board to combat the spread of online disinformation.
You're obsessed with me, man. I keep telling you that I am not into you that way. Or are you still upset that I was right about the Kraken lawsuit and you, a supposed lawyer, was wrong?

Now I am hoping it is me because it'd produce a lot of boomer salt
