Your life would be better off if you stopped using this site and stopped following Internet drama

This is true but it's like saying you should drink more water. I'm glad OP had the revelation and felt assed to do something about it. The rest of us know it's bad and keep drinking anyway.

I agree.

If I don't post "nigger" at least once a day, I'll fucking explode.

Also, the Farms is not only for lolcows and drama. You should really lurk more.
Honestly, one of the biggest reasons I stopped lurking and made an account is because it turns out you can actually have some intelligent conversations here. It's not just reddit-tier faggotry, which is a nice thing.

OK, mom. *grumblegrumblebitchgrumble*

Anyway, I'm not really here for the drama, I just mostly want to vent about trannies and occasionally light up the conservacucks who seem overrepresented here. Is that so wrong?

Tune it all out and one day they'll be kicking in your door to drag you to the camps or at least drag you to your pod and give your helping of soy and bugs.

EDIT: I see you're talking more about lolcows and not politics, but my point still stands.

Overindulgence of any kind is certainly a bad thing, but if it's gotten to that point for you, you really only have yourself to blame. The vast majority of people here likely have jobs and social lives, and the internet is something to do when you come home at the end of the day to unwind. Chin up, OP. Touch grass.

Certainly there are people here who overindulge this site and take it far more seriously than required. I'm doing well in my life that I don't really resonate with your message though I understand where you're coming from. As others have said now, technology is not going away and we need to be able to discipline ourselves in moderating how much time we spend online. I'm not certain it's a viable solution to cross out any kind of online interaction because there are intelligent discussions to be had here from time to time, despite the inherent nature of this forum. What you get out of anything here is entirely on you.

It's my personal view that so long as a person keeps things in perspective there are few places where there aren't opportunities for some kind of growth.

People who are interested in doing and being more will find ways to do and be more no matter what or how little they're given, those who aren't won't no matter what or how much they're given, that's just a fact of life. Give a consumerist a forty thousand dollar grand piano and they'll still find excuses for why they need more, give a humble and talented person a fischer price xylophone and they'll make something interesting and learn from it.

The site gives people an excuse to make/do things and exposes them to concepts and cultures they never would've been exposed to otherwise, and I've seen obvious non-english speakers whose writing has noticeably improved just over the course of a thread's lifespan. There are things to be gleaned pretty much everywhere, a person just has to be willing to look for them.

OP's gonna work out at the gym for like a month and then return to his usual habits of idly browsing internet bullshit on his phone and indulging in mindless entertainment
No actually I've been steadily improving physical health for about a year. Started out with once or twice a week but now it's everyday. Never felt better.
Yes, technology ruined the world and society. No, it's not going away. If this site is affecting your mental health that much I feel sorry for you but it doesn't mean the site is shit.
The site wasn't, I just mean mindless internet browsing in general. Youtube was a big one for me, 4chan or reddit have the same effect ultimately... Wasting time. And no the site isn't shit, but it's important to realize how little time we have in this world, all our hopes and dreams, to reach them and realize our collective goals we have to focus on good/productive things (studying, working, socializing, exercising) the vast majority of our time.
Lol no. I browse this site whilst waiting for data analysis programs to run o my universities shitty virtual desktop. It's either this, or I watch shitty youtube videos all day. At least there's bants on here.
Instead of this or youtube, you could be studying to be a better data analyst.
I MEAN technically anyone can indulge in Internet drama and also dedicate time to self improvement everyday. It's called MODERATION.
True, I believe that a large percentage of the population is prone to overindulgence on lazy things that feel good. That's why so many people are obese, because they just can't resist the temptation and low effort dopamine hits. But what is low effort is not what's satisfying. It's satisfying to do the hard work because overcoming that obstacle is a better long term dopamine hit.

I haven't overindulged (compared to the average) and I have a job as a software engineer. But since this revelation that's slowly come to me over a year, in dedicating more time to studying, productivity and self improvement, I went from working at a decent tech company to Amazon. Oh and being single to having a strong relationship. And from being chubby to fit. If you want to get to the top of your respective careers, you really have to devote more time to it and forgo time wasting stimulation. I think everyone would get true happiness from focusing on what really matters in life and tossing the rest.

Also the isolation that working remote brings for those of us in tech, heightens our need to get social contact in other ways. It may sound weird for a software engineer to hate technology but we see up close just how destructive it is to the fabric of our society.

How do you quantify doing well? Is there any place you'd like to be, that you aren't at? Do you ever feel the desire to reach your full potential? And I don't mean cross out all online interactions, just most of it. You have to really take a step back, take a third person view of your life and how you divvy your time, and think: Would my life be better with or without this aspect in it? Do I need it? Does it benefit me as a person?

If you want to leave the site by all means do that, but don't police other users and tell them what they should be doing with their own free time. Leave and don't say anything on the way out like a normal nigga.

Tech is never going away, the sooner you realize this the better. If you want to become the next Ted Kaczynski and live in the wilderness touching grass and eating berries, by all means go ahead, but don't expect us to go following in your footsteps. You aren't as based as you think for having that take.

Possibly, but I think you're discounting the role of fun. I can think of many more productive things than following internet drama, but internet drama is funny. Its fine for a quick laugh as I'm relaxing after work or whatever. If I wasn't here, I'd probably just be playing a game or watching youtube in that time period anyway.

The pursuit of fun is worthwhile, so long as its in moderation and balanced correctly with other needs. This isn't much different than some ancient tribals sitting around a fire laughing about how ugly their rival tribe is.

tldr touch grass every day and have basic self control regarding internet use, you'll be okay
