E3 (but not really) 2022

It's canon that Mario has multiple bastard children because Peach won't put out.
"Nintendo actually said it" canon, or "Game Theory" canon?
The Giana Sisters were two of the more well known ones.
We could also add her to the list:

Honestly, is there even anything that could be announced that anyone would give a shit about?

I hate to be the doomer here, but anything worth thinking about has either already been announced, is so far out we're not getting an announcement, or is Sony, so it already came and went and didn't get talked about.

Short of a completely new IP, or Capcom or Konami pulling some wild ass stunt and reviving an old franchise, what are we even hoping for here?
Nintendo could do something cool, lots of options, but I don't think anything is likely aside from adding something to NSO.

I was all set up to tell you that this impossible because their tent poles are already set for the next twelve or so months with XB3 in the summer, Splatoon and Pokemon pre-Christmas and BotW 2 next spring or summer. But there's actually a few hidden options here. They could finally unveil what happened to Bayonetta 3, which people continue to insist is on track despite the extremely long dev cycle, EPD 9 (makers of Mario Kart, Arms and Nintendogs) could surprise us with a shock doggo reveal as its one of the few big hitters not to have made it to Switch, and EPD 10 (2D Mario and Pikmin) could have Pikmin 4 or NSMB Switch since its been a few years since MM 2.

And just for the sake of completion, a new 3D Mario is also in development, as is Mario Kart 9 (announced, even) and Metroid Prime 4 by Retro, but none of those fit in the schedule or are even close to completion.

ARMS 2: Legs would make my fucking day.

ARMS was really fun and is a great game everyone should play.

NSMB Switch would be great, especially if they ditch that tired aesthetic.

When you say a new 3D Mario is in development, do you mean it's officially confirmed, or is it just very likely? I remember rumors of a 3D DK by the Odyssey team, I think, but not 3D Mario (between the two I'd like DK tbh).

I just meant likely but come on, its time. Realistically, 3D Mario games take about 3 years to make and the last one came out 4.5 years ago (unless you count Bowser's Fury) so if they aren't currently making it then we'll end up going eight years without new 3D Mario. And I ask you, does that sound like Nintendo to you? That team does release smaller games, like NES Remix and Captain Toad, but we've already got CT ported and we had BF, so you'll have a very hard time convincing me otherwise.

I find the DK rumors to be ridiculous, Nintendo's JP devs are very tight lipped about what they are developing and these DK rumors are all from the English language media who only get scoops from translation offices. AKA they are bullshit that someone made up. We could get Donkey Kong... but only if Nintendo has farmed it out to someone, and if they have they picked a tight-lipped group since no out-side development team rumors exist for it. I dunno, maybe someone like Level 5, Velan Studios, Good-Feel (please, God, no...), Blizzard Albany -aka- Vicarious Visions or, least likely of all, Team Ninja.

I don't know, I can see Nintendo holding out Mario for Switch 2 like they're obviously doing for Mario Kart 9. I'm still not even fully convinced they're not going to try to position BotW2 as a launch title for it, actually.

I don't necessarily believe the DK rumors, plenty of Switch rumors turned out false (Star Fox Grand Prix, Metroid Prime Trilogy, etc), but I just hope it's true. And yeah, after Yoshi's Crafted World I don't want them touching DK lol, if I could pick it'd be Playtonic or Hal.

Huh, come to think of it...

64 -> 6 years -> Sunshine -> 6 years -> Galaxy -> 2 years -> Galaxy 2 -> 1 year -> 3D Land -> 2 years -> 3D World -> 4 years -> Odyssey

So unless a new one drops in '23, that'll make it the longest gap between 3D Mario games

They could finally unveil what happened to Bayonetta 3
There was a trailer for it back in September.

Star Fox Grand Prix
I kinda wonder if this was actually false. The leak was that Retro was developing it. Retro released DKCTF in 2014, then got put on Prime 4 development in what, 2019? What the hell were they doing those 5 years? This might have actually been a real, but now canceled title.

Also, Nintendo making a DK game in Japan is also questionable. DK has historically been handled primarily by Western devs other than the 2000s where Nintendo failed to live up to Rare.

Here’s what we will get for certain:
  • Small FE Warriors: Three Hopes trailer
  • Small Mario Strickers Battle League trailer + first free DLC character trailer (likely Daisy)
  • Small Advanced Wars Re-Boot Camp trailer
  • Xenoblade 3 coverage
  • BOTW 2 coverage
  • Splatoon 3 coverage
  • Mario + Rabbids coverage
  • New Mario Kart tracks likely released this month.
  • New Switch Sports shit added
Other:
  • Bayonetta 3 gets more gameplay shown
  • Mario Odyssey 2 announced
  • Some crazy ass return of a franchise
Not happening:
  • Metroid Prime 4 (Still feels way too early given that Retro is starting over)

  • Thunk-Provoking

Don't expect Advance Wars, they delayed it due to Ukraine and probably don't want to talk about it.

The only reason I give the DK rumors some acknowledgment is that the studio that’s made the 3D Mario games since Galaxy also make Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat and I could see them returning to that franchise if they had some ideas that they didn’t think would work for Mario.

It's certainly possible, but a Star Fox racing game never really made the most sense to begin with. It could work, it'd be distinct enough from Mario Kart that it could exist on its own, but it's an odd decision after Star Fox Zero flopped.

  • Mario Odyssey 2 announced
  • Some crazy ass return of a franchise
These are the only two that would interest me, and even then it depends on which franchise returns. Like, if Pilotwings returns instead of Golden Sun or something I'd actually be more disappointed in a sense.
