Sony hate thread

Companies in China inherently have ties to the CCP, it's 100% rational to distrust them on principle. Tencent has been hands off for the most part, but the problem is that could change in a second if the CCP makes new rules. Sony is retarded on their own, though, they 100% put those rules in place because California is a cuck state.

Exactly. At the end of the day, Tencent is beholden to the Communist Party, just like every other Chinese company. And they already have a reputation for being particularly ruthless in their own country. Tencent is basically a Cyberpunk style mega corp in real life. But now, every major Chinese company in China is in the CCP's crosshairs, and their is increasing scrutiny being brought against them. The general SOP of Chinese companies has been to have a censored product for China and an uncensored one for everywhere else, but that can change at any time with the CCP acting as erratically as it is.

The biggest issue I have with the Xbox 'Core' controllers is that Microsoft took a great controller design and introduced shitty firmware. The first year I had it there was constant disconnection issues, then a firmware update fixed it. But now windows is treating my controller as D-input device than a x-input device. It's all so tiresome.
Shouldn't, by propriety, Windows automatically register an Xbox controller as an X-input device? The fuck is going on there?

Vyse, my two posts said exactly the same thing, why did you rate one Autistic and the other Agree?
Imagine caring this much about stickies.

You would think so. I know it's not the controller or the OS. There are forums on Microsoft's website asking the same issue. It's so fucking weird, because the Xbox One S controller was solid, no issues at all. The Core controller seems to be underbaked for some reason.

They made the WRC and Motorstorm games. Motorstorm was something that was around during the early days of the PS3 and got multiple installments, but it never was a series that played a part in pulling the system out of the mire it was in.
If Motorstorm didn't sell much, how did it get bundled with some PS3s?

Motorstorm was a great tech demo of the PS3's capabilities, IMHO.
R&C future, ToD: Shipped 1 million units(no sales figure from retail)
R&C Future: CiT: 1.89 million sales in 2009
R&C Into the Nexus: Less than a million in 2013.
One of Sony's best franchises yet.

It came bundled early on, the later bundles when the PS3 started to recover didn't feature it IIRC.

The PS3 ratchet and Clanks were also considered some of the oddest games out of the whole series. All 4 One was a multiplayer game and Full Frontal Assault got the series stuck in a mire with it being a multiplayer tower defense game. The Future Trilogy was affected by this because they kind of dragged the series through the mud with those two installments. I mean notice how few Ratchet and Clank games were on the PS4 compared to the PS3 (PS4 only had one game) and the large gap between the movie tie-in and Rift Apart.

The PS3 was where the ratchet series kind of fell from prominence due to numerous issues. Rift Apart is more of a return to form, but they have to expand what they built for the first game it didn't make quite the impact that Forbidden West had in comparison. Forbidden West despite people thinking it somehow lost because Elden Ring came out is still getting major updates for it and they're prepping it for an expansion campaign. It's still one of the most played titles on PS5 where as Rift Apart did not hang around as long. Forbidden West also caused a resurgence in the original Horizon from 2017 because that began to chart on the networks before, during, and after the release of Forbidden West and the game had not been seen that high in years.

Now Rift Apart's performance could be blamed on the supply issues because not a whole lot of people had the system at the time of it's launch and it got lost amidst everything else. But it's also in a still continuing timeline and the tutorial section is an attempt to catch people up to speed on the previous ones. It may not have been exactly considerate to new players in that regard.

Motorstorm was by far the best looking game at the PS3's infamous 2006 (?) conference. That was the 599 US dollars/giant enemy crab one that was going up against the Wii reveal, for those who have repressed the memory. Its terrain defamation was pretty much the only graphically impressive thing the PS3 actually had to show* and (along with Xbox's Gears of War reveal that same week) did a lot to show what Nex Gen was actually going to be capable of. It was definitely the launch day "killer app" in an otherwise completely anemic lineup.

*Brief snippets of White Knight Story from a private demo also leaked out a day or so later, looking far better than the stuff on stage and leaving people wondering why it wasn't publicly featured. The answer of course being that, graphics aside, the game ended up being a turkey.

No no you are forgetting the timeless masterpiece of the PS3 launch, Lair

I actually liked it. I liked that the character you make is just a sidekick that gets forgotten not even halfway through the story.

There is almost the same amount of time between the newer R&C and Horizon series. Could just be companies are finally slowing down the releases instead of flooding the market quickly, especially for their first party titles.

In the case of Ratchet it definitely had to do with poor reception.

Horizon had no media leading up to it and was an entirely new IP. R&C had the movie that the ps4 game was supposed to be supported by.

God of War Ascension was also another bad PS3 installment that caused them to rework the gameplay. People hardly remember this one, but it had an entire multiplayer aspect to it because Sony wanted to try and get people on to PSN by any means possible. Ascension was a prequel of sorts, but it's pretty much the worst game in the whole series.

ehh I would say the poor reception to the movie not so much the game. But we will see if there are more iterations of R&C, Horizon and GT on PS5 before the end of its cycle. Granted its not just Sony doing it Bioware is going on 8 years between Dragon Ages.....

There are no bad entries in GoW, and they can only move back in time because of 3. Why do people say shit like this? The game is good and the reviews reflect that, would you say the same if Horizon Zero Sneed got the exact same reviews?

Now did it sold poorly because of it being too formulaic? Yes. But the worst in the series? I wouldn't even say that. The PSP GoW's are probably a little bit worse tbh.

This is bs, and I already explained, but let me expand.

Insomniac games developed Ratchet in one-year intervals during the PS2 era, an impressive feat, but it did come with the consequence of some parts being rushed and massive crunch time. For the PS3, Insomniac wanted to expand their output and the games they would create, so Resistance was put forth as a new IP, though they were not going to completely sacrifice Ratchet for it. The heads at Insomniac had a plan. The would alternate releases so that the two teams had two year intervals to develop games, so Resistance, Ratchet, Resistance, etc..

The problem was that Insomniac was still a small studio relatively speaking, and thus could not handle what they were about to do. What made matters worse were the overestimations of their abilities, leading to multiple promises that they could not feasibly achieve. Some of those promises were related to online functionality in Tools of Destruction, to make use of Sony's new online features, and multiplayer.

Now here is where the shit show plays out.
Tools didn't have the online features Insomniac promised thanks to its rushed development, angering Sony. The team would then try to appease them by developing Quest For Booty as a downloadable title as to fill the quota, taking time away from Crack in Time. They would claim that Quest was the foundation for Time, as to not lose development time, but it was a shitty excuse. Quest cut in-between the two year gap they should have been given. Not helping was the shuffling of staff to push Resistance 2 along for its final development days. Crack in Time would come out to be the final Ratchet game, but, as we know, that wasn't the case. Remember, Insomniac promised Sony multiplayer, thus All 4 One was developed, and later the online heavy Full-Frontal Assault.

Insomniac, by the end of the PS3, failed to achieve their goal of consistent output and less crunch time. They continuously rushed all throughout the console generation. Sony would seek to buy them out after all that, but burnt out and wanting to remain independent, they decided to decline the offer and venture away from Sony. This would lead them to become a support team on EA titles and to develop the formerly XBOX exclusive Sunset Overdrive, up until they came back to rush out Ratchet 2016 for the movie.

In the meantime, Sony wanted nothing more than to expand the Ratchet brand throughout the 2010s. The first half they spent putting the movie through production hell. They worked with Insomniac for a bit to develop comics, toys, and other multi-media expansion. Ratchet was to be the gateway to a Sony line of movies, that was the hope.

Cut to 2016, Insomniac and Sony are reunited and Ratchet 2016 the game does incredibly well, while the movie flounders. Sony then gives Insomniac the rights to work on a Marvel superhero, and they choose Spider-Man. With the Ratchet money, and Sony being pretty lenient on release windows, Spider-Man is given proper dev time and soon Ratchet would be given the same. Sony would buyout Insomniac in 2019 after Spider-Man's success.

All this to say, Ratchet's downfall was not due to poor reception. The reason he lacked games on 4 was because Insomniac was an overworked studio hoping to not repeat the past and remain independent. By the end, it seems they got half their wish, Sony is fairly lax on releases nowadays, so the studio isn't killing themselves churning out titles.
