The "theme doesn't matter" stance EFAP takes is so weird to me, especially given they say they only care about the quality of the writing. In what world is theme not part of the writing? I definitely agree that having a theme doesn't make something automatically be good or flawless, but I also don't know anyone who was insisting that in the first place. There are also situations where the theme of a movie can technically make things worse. One of the big examples I can think of is Terminator 2 and 3. T2 was all about fighting against the future/predetermination. By overcoming challenges, they were able to avert disaster. T3 is the exact opposite, doomsday is inevitable no matter what you do. Now, neither one is the deciding factor if it's good or bad, T3 had a lot of other flaws and T2 had a lot of other strengths, but I dunno, I think it's still interesting to discuss, especially if you're a channel that tries to advertise itself as being so deep, you pause to discuss every frame.
