That’s interesting. I wonder if he gets home passes. Not sure how California is, but in some states if you’re at a hospital or facility long enough you can get those. If he’s ordered by the court he to be there, and since he’s pretrial, it’s not likely.

So he gets ordered for a mental health evaluation in November, and he doesn’t appear to pop up in the inmate locators online. He’s either at a hospital or released.

He was out of bail - possibly paid by Mick Lauer, whom Shad was also living with for a few months before he stopped posting onto Twitter. Shortly before he went social-media-silent Shad posted a selfie of himself outside of what looked like an mass-accommodation facility of some sort.

This fueled my hypothesis that the place had to be a mental ward because 1) the only thing to stop Shad from tweeting at that point would either be someone preventing him from doing so (like the ward staff) or death, 2) his court info referred to Shad requiring a "mental competency assessment" and a court-ordered facility would be the best place for them to do that, 3) Shad had nowhere left to go other then back out onto the streets since Mick had clearly kicked Shad out of his apartment (scroll back a few pages for more details), and 4) Shad's court hearings went to "non-appear" directly after he dropped off social media; meaning he wasn't required to be present at hearings during his ongoing trial - and since there was a mental competency assessment ongoing, this could be due to the shrink making the assessment speaking to the judge about Shadman while Shadman was in confinement.

I just really wish we had a pair of ears in that courtroom or at least access to the transcripts

Honestly I always got the vibe that a bunch of the guys at Newgrounds were just a bunch of guys who's edgy phase lasted a bit longer than usual. Like the guys like Zach and Oney just barely started to cool off once their careers started to kick off. What this meant however was that they were PROBABLY unintentionally enabling Shad to keep pursuing fucked up shit for "shock humor" until it was too late. Like it's honestly kinda fucked how these days they tried to wipe their hands clean of him and acting like it was drugs that did this to him. They appear to be developing into their own careers. Zach certainly has, although oney I feel might be spinning his wheels with just doing oney plays and spending infinite time on a game he refuses to ever show.

The guys on Sleepycast did always talk about his cooking. It'd be great if he cleaned up and went back to doing stuff with them. When I watched Smiling Friends I expected him to have a voice role before I forgot about the whole relapse-and-bridge-burning thing. I feel like he could come back if he really makes the effort though. Meanwhile Shad is probably still too bitter about Take it EZ babe.

Beyond just the drugs , stampers in a tough situation. He has some talent but a spotty work record. He HAD industry friends but doesnt live in same city and seemingly has burned bridges. He is also presently around 40

Now I would love for their to be a sleepycast reunion arc where oney, and stamper make amends but thats hard after a half decade of not talking and (allegedly ) stolen money from drug addiction. Along with constant relapses.

It might have something to do with the capacity of the mental health system. It's probably impossible to rehabilitate old, violent, drug-addicted schizos so they're left to the streets to get shot, stabbed, or OD rather than waste even more taxpayer money in an institution. Shad is violent and drug addicted but they probably think he'd actually benefit from mental health services or he's told them that he's willing to go into rehab or treatment. Sort of like how they only keep the most violent criminals in jail and prison nowadays. With the overcrowding and shit systems there's no room to put nonviolent offenders so they get booked and thrown right back out

Corey's probably the only one that retains some of his Newgrounds demeanor, but even he's kind of chilled out. I still believe that because of his Heroin addiction they are probably trying to put him in some kind of rehab program and then put him on pre trial diversion or some form of first offender program so he wont actually get a criminal record. There is no chance they are saying that shadman is to insane for his crimes he probably is being held either at a detention facility or he is in some form of state run drug detox program.

This is just a theory though.......

That's what I assumed when I heard the website was down. Thought it would have shut down sooner as well. Maybe he just can't keep it open anymore due to financial reasons. Maybe he's more dumb than we thought and he just forgot to set it to autopsy. Or he just shut down his only revenue source. Either way, this put a smile on my face.

Coastal state prisons tend to be overcrowded especially in California's case. Some random crackhead yelling about Adderall and drawing lolis stabbing another unwitting homeless crackhead isn't super high on the police's priority list.

Can't quite recall. But I think his bosses got wind of the Dafne Keen debacle and booted his arse out the door) and that he had to use his commission work and personal savings to prop up his website since it wasn't bring in enough ad-rev.

After paying off bail the last of his savings would've been burnt through. It was only a matter of time before the website went under.
