Really getting off topic here, but I can remember when older women would take offense at being referred to as a ‘woman’ instead of a ‘lady’. This was in the 70s and ‘woman’ was seen as a less respectful term implying sexual freedom or some shit, the whole Miss/Ms/Mrs thing, and macho-type men would use ‘woman’ and ‘Ms’ as an insult. So I think this carried over into the use of ‘female’ in professional settings (legal, medical) to avoid any divisive connotations, and funny enough here we are.
Female is seen as an insult because it’s too clinical if I’m reading correctly?
Maybe there’s something to be said for simplifying gender language as much as possible, down to just male & female. Maybe we can start a counterculture movement here and now in the Sammie thread lol, against the ‘muh pronouns’ cult?
