been watching someone named The Shogunate who covers the sengoku period of japans history. i find sengoku period to be such a cool moment in japans history. it dosent last very long but there so many iconic characters that show up as soon as they leave and leave their mark in the history books. its like the wildwest but with samurais in a RTS map with a bunch of players from different factions.
its pretty crazy how such a small country can have so much infighting going on for hundred of years, it basically becomes part of daily life. the samurai were fucking hardcore .
Honestly the Sengoku Jidai is overrated. It's the best known but it overshadows other cool things like the campaigns against the northern barbarians or the pre-historic mythical period with shaman-queen himiko and the eternal debate if japan was settled by koreans or koreans by japanese. The Ashigaru deserve more attention. While the Samurai were badass, they quite often had the luxury of enough time to train and prepare for the next conflict. Ashigaru were just Average Joes who had to leave their home and family behind to be send to one of countless battlefields. Then you had people who went from being some unimportant conscripted peasent to renowned warriors, with the best example being Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

All people seem to known is Sneedgoku jidai - some shogunate - Meiji Revolution - japan makes asia its bitch - WORLD WAR II.
Japan is more than that. It's most distinctive structures; the Kofun are a total mystery and nobody seems to care ;_;. Imagine having prehistoric royal tombs in your country and the royal household is "sorry no can open"
