Fallout series

Where the fuck did that thing even come from? It feels so out of place compared to anything else before or since in the series.

Apparently it was inserted at the behest of Interplay, who demanded a tutorial area. I never thought that excused Black Isle for creating such an area whose very existence didn't make a lick of sense.

I can't even buy the idea of it being a Pre-War tourist trap since it looks so much like a Mayan ruin or something. Just fucking weird.

Honestly it feels like a rejected area for one of their D&D games they just copied and pasted so they wouldn't have to waste any time actually designing a new area nobody wanted.

I'm wondering what the general consensus is on the Old World Blues mod for HOI4? They just released a recent update for their mod. And in my view it was a bit lacklustre. The changes to the NCR are alright, as are the inclusion of brand new raiders in east Nevada. In fact I'd say the Raiders are the best part of the mod. Having their little Battle Royale.

But Lost Hills isn't that fun. And it takes way too long for things to happen, and there's a lot of focus bloat IMO. It also doesn't help that a lot of the BOS chapters you'll end up needing to support in the future are typically fodder for steamrolling. Either via Legate Lanius' Cohort, NCR or just gambling on dice rolls.

And a lot of the content in Montanna/Northern Canada is unplayable because they're waiting on future updates like for the Chicago Enclave and Midwest Brotherhood. And I tried playing the CHICOM Robobrain, but I wasn't at all anticipating there being a 6 way war. And got absolute schwacked because robots are so difficult to produce en masse.

TBQH, I'm hoping for a MacArthur submod, which unlocks their potential. Because the only other major Enclave path, the 'Renoclave' has been removed. And given to Eureka, who have an awful industry. Especially if you end up competing with the NCR.

K*taku interviewed some people who worked on fallout 76 about how bad it was. This part got my attention:

According to one source, Howard was supposed to be in charge of the game, but he spent most of his time working on Starfield, which reportedly started development after Fallout 4 shipped in 2015. One source told Kotaku that his subordinates would call it “seagulling” when he would “fly by later and shit all over an idea” that had popular traction within the design team. Another source felt that Howard was a decent executive producer, albeit one with a “bigger is better” design philosophy.

Was Dreamboy real all along? :story:

Sounds like a game no one but corporate wanted to happen. They really should've compromised with a spinoff with optional co-op.
Tons of people wanted Fallout 76 at Bethesda. Including Todd Howard. But they are mostly new hires who came from mobile and games for service companies. When Fallout 76 was first conceptualized Bethesda went out and hired a bunch of mobile and microtranscation style producers and began working with other studios to make the online and real money shop aspects works. These people became the new Fallout team. I would not be shocked if they do not have enough of a team to make a single player Fallout game again. At least without a major restructuring or having to outsource the game to someone like Obsidian again.

Yes. It seems so in-character for Todd to just walk in and say "NPCs in our Fallout game? That's stupid, don't put that in."

After Fallout 4 I'd only trust an outsourced team. Bethesda just wanted a money-maker holdover game because they need 12 years to make a sequel to one of their hot I.P.s, and it worked. I still get people telling me 76 is 'fixed' now. They also pay for Fallout 1st and all the other garbage that comes out. Bethesda could shit in your mouth directly and people would complain... then eat it up once they released the sprinkle update.

Wasnt 76 supposed to get mod support at some point?

still waiting for someone to hopefully make a server emulator for it so it can be played truly single player
Theres that fallout Appalachia mod for FO4. But that will suffer the same fate every worldspace mod suffers. tranny shit

Eventually is all they said in the pre-release but I doubt it will ever happen. They've been making bank off of private server shit where you can tweak damage and loot values and they intend to milk the game for years and years to come. They have every incentive NOT to do it and have been subtly sabotaging the mod communities of their other games in the past five or so odd years in an attempt to get more of a stranglehold on the games.

Honestly, I doubt Starfield will even have mod support, and if it does, it'll be hamstrung by some kind of in-game service.

Alright I made a new character based off Salvador from Borderlands. S: 8 P: 5 E: 9 C: 5 I: 3 A:5 L: 5. Hispanic with Tunnel Snake hair and beard.
This ones gonna be combat-oriented so I obviously chose rapid reload as my first perk. He also has Built to Destroy and Fast Shot. Also chems are gonna be a big part so I'm leveling medicine first and foremost.

Two problems with this.
First, Starfield. Bethesda isn't evil, as much as BI fanboys want to say they are. They're greedy, as all companies are. With Starfield seemingly having a major leaning back to 3 styled dialog trees and RP perks, if it sells in a major way, Bethesda is going to attribute that to the better roleplay aspects (in addition to autists crying about it since release), and will throw their weight back into that.

That's one good thing about the retarded 'one game at a time' approach Beth has, it allows them to react to market trends better than anyone else, for better or worse.

Second, Obsidian made Outer Worlds. I don't want those fucking failures anywhere near anything relevant ever again.

If I remember correctly one of promised Perks of Fallout first (subscription) was ability to create your own private server that could be modded , but I dont know If Bethesda delivered on that promise

Yeah, the most I'd give them is being a support studio to Bethesda. I can't even say they'd be guaranteed to make better RPGs when the perks in The Outer Worlds were far less interesting than the ones in Fallout 3 & 4, let alone the ones in New Vegas (that goes for a lot of aspects, even the weapons and quests were uninspired in that game). I'd sooner trust inXile to work on Fallout given how good Wasteland 3 was, and even then maybe only remakes of 1 & 2 and remasters of 3 & New Vegas as they lack experience in making games like modern Fallout.

Speaking of Starfield, I'd be shocked if they don't bring back traits to Fallout when they're prominently showed off for that game.

I disagree somewhat with your assessment, having just run through a playthrough. I think the mainline perks aren't great, but depending on how you level your points, you can pick up a couple of interesting sub-perks. Like being able to negate the armour of enemies when you reach a high enough level in your firearm of choice. Or how your dialogue skills, dependent on which one you're specked into, effect how enemies react to critical hits.

I honestly enjoy Outer Worlds, and would hope that any successor game would throw in a lot more re content. Because you are right, the guns are a bit bland. Although the range of handguns on offer isn't exactly awful. If they can add more in the way of planetary exploration, guns and such, I'd honestly consider it a rival to say a Fallout. On account of me also enjoying a Firefly almost, like RPG.

I realized how Charisma is a useless special so let me revise my character and report back. Meanwhile here's some tunes.
