Its not even that he doesn't care about immersion, he just has no sense of curiosity whatsoever and genuinely does not care about any of these worlds/characters in the video games he plays. He doesn't give a shit about any of these games and its pretty obvious. It would actually be kinda funny if he would just be honest and admit he's just going through the motions for the money but he chooses to pretend to like these games when its quite obvious he doesn't.

Normal people play a video game and are excited to go exploring and find new things to learn about. They go on journeys and have virtual experiences they could never have in real life. Phil lacks imagination so that doesn't interest him. He wants to get through the game as quick as possible. Getting from point A to point B that's all he is thinking about. The idea of expending energy thinking about or doing anything but swilling gin and playing mobile games baffles the pigroach. If an activity isn't flooding his brain with dopamine it's a chore and unnecessary suffering.
