I am familiar with it, actually. But Graeme, as a lay member rather than a priest, is in a very different situation with regard to the Church's response. The Church has entrusted him with no authority, spent no time or money on his theological training, has no prestige invested in him. He doesn't help keep the church going in an age where the popularity of the priesthood as a vocation has plummeted, forcing them to choose between lowering standards and frocking maladapted weirdoes. He's not some kind of charismatic figure who keeps the donations coming in. He has no dirt on the other clergy. No influence of any kind on the Church at all. Literally the worst thing Graeme could do to the Church would be to shake his fist at the priest and shout, "I won't believe in God any more, so I won't! And it's all your fault! Then you'll be sorry!" And that obviously won't work. The Church would gain absolutely nothing by protecting him from true accusations, and could lose quite a bit if they did. Indeed, they're unlikely to help him for that very reason. Fortunately, even in Ireland, Catholicism is not the only church that exists.
Secular psychology, on the other hand, has absolutely no chance of helping a pedophile like Graeme whatsoever. None. Zero. It is the secular psychologists who are pushing to treat pedophilia as a sexual orientation now, because in all these decades secular psychology has never once produced a single verified "cured" pedophile. Secular psychologists have as much chance of producing a reformed pedophile as literal cargo cultists have at producing a fully functioning airport, and for the same reason: despite decades of work, their worldview fundamentally excludes a vital dimension of the problem. Just as Pacific island savages have no comprehension of the technological, secular psychologists have no conception of the spiritual. How is any pedophile supposed to reject his evil impulses when the psychologist is telling him that it's all a product of his own mind, and he has to accept himself to be at peace?
His family is useless, so they are. The state is useless, so it is. Graeme has no friends, so he doesn't. Kiwi Farms doesn't intervene, so we don't. God is his only help.
