I think we talked about it briefly. There's long running beef between Atlas Survival and Rising S. The guy who runs Atlas constantly accuses the owner of Rising S of snitching to the feds, making bunkers that rust and brings up a situation where a bunker blew up due to some gas leak. The Rising S guy gave Matt a bunker in exchange for the videos promoting the company which was just the better deal and the competitor got felted.

Honestly, your best bet is finding a local group and going to the range (and then to the bar) with them. People tend to be a lot more civil when they're within punching distance, and simply being in the same physical space as opposed to an amorphous online "community" gives people a sense of community much stronger than anything you'll find on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, or here. Having a crew, to use one of Paul Harrell's terms, is a wonderful thing. Even if you don't organize into an official group, having more friends is always good.

I've never considered myself an expert on the topic of survival bunkers but it occurs to me that steel bunkers are only ever used by military forces when they need something that's quick to set up and can be ported into an area such as a checkpoint for a limited time. Military bunkers made to last all seem to be some form of earthwork, whether that be stones, bricks, or concrete. Just a trend I've noticed but it makes some interesting food for thought.

There's no context. He was just explaining that he stopped carrying a Glock because the HK416 was so reliable. Until one day ammo that had come from a bad batch seized his rifle, and without thinking he hammered the forward assist - then couldn't pull the case out.

There's a lot of "my way or the highway" when it comes to gun minutiae, and most of it is completely pointless ego-stroking.

Like, I'm not a fan of forward assists. But that's because I much prefer reciprocating bolt handles, something with a solid connection to the bolt/carrier itself. And with the AR platform in particular the charging handle just feels awkward to me. Even though I've got one and I'm used to it, I still think it feels weird to operate. But the key is that I don't care if anyone disagrees with me. If you like forward assists, good on you. There are perfectly good reasons for it, as the army concluded. If you dislike them, that's fine too. Same deal: there are reasons not to like it, otherwise every rifle without a reciprocating bolt handle would have one. Neither position affects my opinion on the matter, or their relative value.

It happens every time you see two opposing views that are mostly inconsequential. People latch on to their position and won't budge. Some are pro-skub, others are anti-skub, but in the end it makes no difference. Think of it like fandom. It's the gun-nut version of shipping and OTPs.

The other thing too is that if what @UVB-76 was saying is true that he just slammed the forward assist before performing SPORTS that isn't the forward assist's fault, that's pure operator error. Now you could attempt the argument that having the forward assist in the first place is inviting that type of fuck up but then by that logic so is a reciprocating charging handle since you could make that same fuckup with one of them.

I've looked into this guy before and his bunkers are apparently well built. The corrugated bunkers are the cheaper ones suggested for low water table areas and all the bunkers have a waterproof coating on them. If his photos and videos of Rising S bunkers are real, that company has some serious quality issues. The guy goes into detail on his manufacturing and assembly process, pointing out little things that would otherwise be overlooked by a prospective buyer. I'm not sure if there are other competitors in the bunker building space on Atlas' level.
He is a schizo and very abrasive, though. I'm not sure if a free bunker is worth it for him given his bunkers are very expensive. His least expensive square shelter cost $49k and the least expensive corrugated tube cost $58k three years ago.
