I don't know much about how Canadian welfare works, but from what I've seen in the USA, if someone gets SSI (disability checks) they have to let someone of a better mental state watch over their bank account to make sure they aren't using welfare money to buy useless shit/drugs, some states outright mandate that you use 40-50% of your monthly SSI checks for food and housing bills, and will get on your ass big time if you're caught abusing it for drug money and the like. Then again I'm from an area of the USA with some sanity left in its local government, so idfk how those leafs handle it, probably would call our welfare system "insert X phobic here" because you can't waste it on dumb shit without the feds getting on your ass.

Also with the USA. you have to report any income you make to Social Security for if you make over a certain amount monthly, they start taking away amounts of said welfare check, remember SSI is meant to help supplement a low income job. Slight PL but I have experience with this. In Maple Land what you get is determined by how disabled you are and where you live. You can have some of your bills covered and some medical coverage. If you're still able to work you might get like $600 or so a month.

You're also evaluated on your mental state when you fill out the forms. If you're capable of handling finances you can handle them yourself. If you're absolutely potato based you'll need someone to act as executor.

On the drug thing, considering homeless people get free needles for drugs it's a little lax there. But if there is no viable improvement on temporary disability you get it yanked.

Overall, really good.
