Plagued /vt/ and related vtuber lunacy - Touhou brony console wars

I think 'Roommate content' is a bit too specific. Most major spaces for V-Tuber fans to congregate, like Discord and Reddit, strongly oppose discussion of the roommate in any capacity.
It's worth noting that r/VirtualYoutubers, the most active vtuber discussion subreddit after r/Hololive, does allow roommate discussion as long as it's behind spoiler tags. They probably wouldn't allow the very personal doxxing that gets put on the Japanese sites and then is repeated here, but "Pomu was Mint" is fine.

In general I think people in the KF vtuber thread tend to act as if it is the only place for roommate discussion because everyone wants to think that they are in their own special community that is better than everyone else. I do agree that most discussion now is just done for tribalist reasons. Especially in the case of doxxing that goes beyond just the vtuber's other streaming accounts.

That being said, I don't really think there should be a rule against such posting.

Second, well, to use a tired comparison, vtubing is like modern professional wrestling. Nobody thinks Korone is a literal dog-girl just like nobody thinks The Undertaker is a literal zombie or whatever, but you can allow yourself to mentally "play along" with the presentation while watching. There's a real person behind the character, though, and knowing who that person is and how they do their job can give a fuller understanding of the entertainment as a whole. If you watch a professional wrestling show and take everything being presented to you uncritically, you might be entertained but I'd argue you don't really have a full understanding of what you're seeing. Similarly, watching vtubers without caring about the performers or anything other than what the character and the company presents is perfectly fine and heckin' valid, but it's kind of a shallow experience, and you're probably believing some things which are not true.
Right, but that applies to virtually every human being. When you go to the store what's presented to you by any given person isn't a direct representation of how someone is behind closed doors, all of us put on a show in some way. Every performer certainly does, every musician, actor, politician, TV personality, any person who ever has to present themselves puts up a front.
Every fact/piece of history/info about science or trade or otherwise/object or function in your house right now all has a deeper level of understanding a person could obtain behind the facade to help them further their understanding of the world.

Don't fucking patronize us, we aren't the children you people love interacting with so much online. Why is it that you looked at the thousands of other options more readily available, pushed it all out of the way and said "No, I choose the one involving niche infantile, fetishistic content. That's where the real truth is"?

Also, I like how the WWE fans use soap operas (which are already stupid) to excuse their garbage, and Vtuber fans in turn use WWE to excuse their garbage. There's a very good reason some of the biggest laughingstocks on the site are the biggest wrestling fans.

But if KF is so mundane then why don't these people go away? I'm sure Josh would be happy to get rid of the Vtuber thread, I'm confident that he thinks as little of this shit as I do possibly even less. Very few of the users post anywhere else yet they keep showing up, so obviously there's some reason these things won't leave.

I don't actually believe what you're saying. Otherwise these users would have no reason to have ever come to this site to begin with.

Sure. But some people will be interested enough in the front that they want to learn more. Most people will go to a restaurant and enjoy the food, and some will become enthralled and want to learn more about how the food was made and served. I don't really know where you're going with this since I wasn't saying this concept was unique to vtubers and rasslin'.

lol calm down. Who's patronizing you? Who said I don't also enjoy other hobbies? And who said I find truth in vtubing? It's background noise entertainment, not religion. Maybe you're taking this more seriously than I am.

I didn't know that that subreddit allowed roommate-posting, but even so, it's still Reddit, with its own sour culture and its own obnoxious subthreaded discussion system where stuff gets easily-hidden, so I won't be switching over. The Farms is still a better ecosystem, both software-wise and people-wise.

Because some people prefer forums to image boards, and want to be able to call people faggots without being banned. My point is less that they are the same exact individuals (though there is obvious overlap between /vt/ and the vtuber thread), more that the communities are less different than people like to imagine.

Like WTS said you should log out or ignore. There is no counter you can come up with for people criticizing YOUR PERSONAL experiences. If you want to be thought of as different utilize the beautiful reality of the internet - create a new account on 7/4. If not, just continue to post your opinions on karaokes or other shit you find interesting. GL

You’re right. I should’ve never responded, to any of this.

Sorry everyone. Should’ve ignore it, I know I can do better than this

If you've ever wanted to see a practical example of why you shouldn't sign up with the same shit as anywhere else on the internet, this is it. It's also where I remind you that if you did fuck up like this, and haven't made an oopsie yet (sorry Nolan), ask for a username change ASAP; I'm fairly sure this is the only situation in which it gets accepted.

I might not be a tea expert, but I don't think that's how Hong Kong milk tea works?
If I may offer my own two cents on this, as someone who held this opinion but has since stopped using the thread:

I think 'Roommate content' is a bit too specific. Most major spaces for V-Tuber fans to congregate, like Discord and Reddit, strongly oppose discussion of the roommate in any capacity.

Back when the west picked up on the industry, this time-honoured tradition was much easier to assimilate with because pretty much every person behind the V-Tuber was a Literal Who with negligible online presence. However, now that they've exploded in popularity, the bar for recruitment has been set higher, which means new initiates are far more likely to be well-known and carry a much more comprehensive online footprint, which also means more people are likely to recognise the person behind the character.

This has caused a bizarre, surreal, almost cultish situation in places like r/Holo and Fancords where there can be dozens of people all mutually aware that [X] person is [Y] V-Tuber, but even hinting at it will result in permabans and mods putting the kibosh on the discussion. Everyone has to pretend they don't know, and have to keep up appearances at all times out of fear they'll be ejected from engaging with the community.

KF allowed people to not really have to give a shit about that, so I don't think that is inherently what made the thread go to shit. The burgeoning desire for drama and scandals to occur so people can 'stick it' to the company they hate only gets worse, and that is imported directly from 4reddit. So, I agree with you in the end: I think that the inclusion of roommate discussion now only serves to give more people ammunition to have their console war.

Just the other day they spent pages gloating over their preferred company having better birthday merch — complete with incorrect info — and yet actual potentially valuable content, such as a video of Kiara's roommate running away from a stalker in Japan, doesn't get archived.
It is sort of a weird situation, there definitely is noticeable bias from certain people on the thread. The team sperging isn't nearly as bad as on /vt/, and still not much compared to the nuclear fallout zone that the political threads are, but it's still noticeable. As I've already mentioned on the main thread, there's a weird amount of sensitivity on it; people feed into most of the "you're all pedos" bait, and content generators (there was a guy who went on lunatic rants there) get banned even though far worse people on the forums get milked for daily content as they should be. I definitely wish people were more self-aware; it's anime girls being retarded, not the presidential race. Laughing at a guy ERPing getting an office blowjob from his emotionally desperate Chinese fans is what these forums are all about, but starting pages-long "my team rules your team drools!!!!!!!" shitflings over the smallest things just makes people look like spergs.

Don't apologize to them. Apologize to yourself for putting yourself in this situation in the first place. Like you said you can do better. Start by deleting your Kiwifarms account. Anything to stop you from directly interacting with this website. You keep saying you "don't care" what others think. It's clear that you do. It's too late now, posters will keep on shitting on you for as long as they remember you. By replying to their shit you keep on feeding them. Let them forget about you. The best you can do now is to stop by deleting your account. Don't even think about making a new account.

I know the discussion on the vtuber thread is that "it's the best place to talk about vtubers." So, you might think you're part of some exclusive cool kids club by being in the kiwifarms vtuber thread. Wrong. If anything, it marks you as one of the biggest fucking losers on the internet. You have nothing to gain here and you have everything to lose by staying on this site. You're probably part of other vtuber communities. Post there, share your... enthusiasm for the new Gura song cover or whatever, and forget about this place.

I think 'sensitive' is pretty apt; 'self-conscious' is appropriate, too.

It's the only thread I've been on where people are concerned with other people's 'attitude' and think that others must be conscious of how the thread perceive them (I'm being told that I 'left' the thread because I felt 'disliked and unwelcome' and not because I just decided it was a waste of my time).

It is mildly retarded.

Lmao this is what i said by the infighting being the 2nd best part of the thread

On other news /vt/ cringe posted a spergatory about Kiwifarms and the loli spergery https://twitter.com/VTuberCringe/status/1540243318159937537?t=Chc7Xoj321MQ7ZGTYDd4uQ&s=19 https://archive.ph/qvWEa

It looks like the loli-related sperging on this topic isn't going to end soon around these parts as Phase-Connect, the agency of thread fave Pippa, has finally announced the debut of their second generation of streamers, disappointing those of us enjoying the memes that such a thing was never going to happen. Among the six new characters are three "loli" characters (or possibly four, depending on how you judge these things) including one with an open shirt and very small panties.

Rrat: There are 3 loli vtubers in Phase Gen 2 because fishman wants this thread to get shutdown.

("Fishman" is a nickname for the PC CEO.)

Even though I'm on the "lol calm down" side of this argument, I definitely think Shiina's design and costume is too far. It's disappointing to see PC cross this line, frankly.

They all have that same 'I'm high as fuck' voice Vei/Nyanners and Twitch Indies have too.

Will be interesting to see if there's any mental gymnastics to explain how these ones are halal because they're tangentially affiliated with Pippa.

Cross-posting this, one of the drama posters is the autist who was harassing Shirara of Phase-Connect Gen 2 posting about himself. Knowledge because a screenshot was posted using his alt account as the logged in profile.
