Second, well, to use a tired comparison, vtubing is like modern professional wrestling. Nobody thinks Korone is a literal dog-girl just like nobody thinks The Undertaker is a literal zombie or whatever, but you can allow yourself to mentally "play along" with the presentation while watching. There's a real person behind the character, though, and knowing who that person is and how they do their job can give a fuller understanding of the entertainment as a whole. If you watch a professional wrestling show and take everything being presented to you uncritically, you might be entertained but I'd argue you don't really have a full understanding of what you're seeing. Similarly, watching vtubers without caring about the performers or anything other than what the character and the company presents is perfectly fine and heckin' valid, but it's kind of a shallow experience, and you're probably believing some things which are not true.
Right, but that applies to virtually every human being. When you go to the store what's presented to you by any given person isn't a direct representation of how someone is behind closed doors, all of us put on a show in some way. Every performer certainly does, every musician, actor, politician, TV personality, any person who ever has to present themselves puts up a front.
Every fact/piece of history/info about science or trade or otherwise/object or function in your house right now all has a deeper level of understanding a person could obtain behind the facade to help them further their understanding of the world.
Don't fucking patronize us, we aren't the children you people love interacting with so much online. Why is it that you looked at the thousands of other options more readily available, pushed it all out of the way and said "No, I choose the one involving niche infantile, fetishistic content. That's where the real truth is"?
Also, I like how the WWE fans use soap operas (which are already stupid) to excuse their garbage, and Vtuber fans in turn use WWE to excuse their garbage. There's a very good reason some of the biggest laughingstocks on the site are the biggest wrestling fans.
It's worth noting that r/VirtualYoutubers, the most active vtuber discussion subreddit after r/Hololive, does allow roommate discussion as long as it's behind spoiler tags. They probably wouldn't allow the very personal doxxing that gets put on the Japanese sites and then is repeated here, but "Pomu was Mint" is fine.
In general I think people in the KF vtuber thread tend to act as if it is the only place for roommate discussion because everyone wants to think that they are in their own special community that is better than everyone else. I do agree that most discussion now is just done for tribalist reasons. Especially in the case of doxxing that goes beyond just the vtuber's other streaming accounts.
That being said, I don't really think there should be a rule against such posting.
But if KF is so mundane then why don't these people go away? I'm sure Josh would be happy to get rid of the Vtuber thread, I'm confident that he thinks as little of this shit as I do possibly even less. Very few of the users post anywhere else yet they keep showing up, so obviously there's some reason these things won't leave.
I don't actually believe what you're saying. Otherwise these users would have no reason to have ever come to this site to begin with.
