That’s the overall Gem count and it combines ones obtained for free and ones that were paid for, IIRC there is a screen that shows these as two separate categories.

He doesn't pay that much. He literally only puts gems into Leaf and Red, and he only buys gems (allegedly) to "replace" ones his team was too shit to earn (he's very bad at the game). Any amount is too much, but I'd be more concerned by him buying a 60 dollar japanese guidebook over and over from Japan for stickers than spending a few dollars on Masters a month*

*this is also largely according to him so

I'd also be concerned about how he's willing to buy over 50 Leaf plushes if she ever gets an official one.

He's not that far gone. He's very aware of reality which is another strong point against him being schizophrenic. He doesn't fall for "I talked to Leaf" and whatever, I just imagine him screeching about being found.

he's too scared of doxing himself to buy things online for the most part, especially from westerners who are reasonably closer to him. I vaguely recall that he was considering buying some art but backed out over that, although where or when he said that is lost on me.
