Any of these things have a lot of actors with various motivations. I'm sure some politicians who voted for Hart-Celler did so solely because somebody bought them a few nights with a really busty hooker. With demographic change in particular, it was primarily an ideological crusade by a Jewish Congressman who held a lifelong grudge against the United States for not opening the floodgates to his kin from Eastern Europe. His goal was to make the USA more Jewish and less white. "Thanks" to his work, the majority of Jews in the USA today are descended from Eastern European Jews, which is where a great deal of America's institutional hatred of Russians as an ethnic group comes from, and America hosts millions and millions of refugees from Third World countries.

Hochul is more hated than Cuomo. I'm shocked that she's basically running unopposed.

I know the Dems had hope for resident black woman Letitia James (Attorney General of New York), so maybe they were more surprised that she withdrew than I thought, and the DNC just ran with it.

They had some hope for James but the dream was dead on arrival, Hochul was easily beating everyone else even back when the field was more crowded. So she dropped out to dig up dirt on Trump full time.

The only surprise this primary has seen is Brian Benjamin (Hochul's first Lieutenant-Governor, token black man) getting arrested by the feds for bribery, Hochul had to draft Anthony Delgado (another token black man) and take him out of the 19th district. It's R+1 so that ought to make things interesting in November.

Also, I saw my first political yard sign of the year recently. It said Zeldin for Governor.

Washington's ability to control other governments depends on its ability to impoverish them and stage a domestic revolutions. The real irony of the 21st century is how the script flipped from the 20th. Moscow is far less interested in controlling your country's politics and ideology than Washington is.

Agree 100%. My little armchair statesmen theory is that Moscow hates being dependent on the West for this kind of shit. Always has. And so, they are actively trying to build up the capacity to handle it themselves domestically. Moscow has enough domestic problems to solve, that they really don't care much (not saying they don't care at all) about what goes on further than Eastern Europe and China/Japan, and the MidEast to a smaller degree, unless it affects those areas. And lordy, have we been fucking around in Eastern Europe and the Middle East for a hot minute or two. Also, they are actively trying to do something about some of those domestic problems, although results have been typically Russian (that is to say, and generously, at that, sub-par) to date, they're at least trying.

Pretty pathetic, to be honest. Oh no, Trump was upset because of election fraud! How is this important or useful? If anything it just undermines their credibility if this kind of testimony is their best material, so much so that it demands a special surprise hearing.
