Hololive got largely known due to collabs, obviously people know who they are but prior to a lot of big name collabs that Hololive did, it wasn't the "general population" that were into it, whereas Nijisanji ticked a lot of more "general" marks not being marketed as virtual idols. The pandemic buff was massive worldwide, Kizuna Ai et all were still far more popular in Japan.
As a low-key numberfag myself that would be true if it were early 2020. At this current point in time Hololive has a higher number of live viewers on average across the board, been getting more frequent sponsorships from some major mainstream companies, been collaborating with a lot more of the actual anime industry, and their expansions within Indonesia as well in terms of sponsorships also add to that.

Honestly I don't have merch sales number and if you notice my phrasing I'm not implying to know which company made more money in those categories, but I was saying that in the country where those categories matter the most and bring the real revenue Nijisanji has a bigger share of the market.

There was a separate graph regarding overall company earnings back in March I believe and the main branch has a noticable in comparison to previous reports. Anycolor as whole in that graph would have had an overall decline in profits if it wasn't for Luxiem blowing up which brought them to the exact same amount of earnings as the previous report.
