“Trans bodies are normal bodies.”
…No they’re not. By definition, a radically medically altered body is not normal, except maybe in comparison to other bodies of that subset. Like, even if having an amhole was objectively awesome (it is not) it’d still be unusual. Like, imagine if in The Boys, you had a bunch of superheroes talking about how being able to pull trains behind you was “normal.“ It’d be absurd!
Also, when I was a kid (fuck, I’m way too young to be saying that) I remember being taught that normal was both a relative term, and value neutral. That not being normal wasn’t always a bad thing, and could even be pretty cool sometimes.
Now, being trans is not cool. To me, it seems to basically be a life-wrecking social disease that preys on the vulnerable and grants power to the predatory. But if we forget that, I can’t help but think teaching young people that everything must be normal or it’s bad, and that their mental health rests entirely on the perceptions of others, is setting them up for pure misery.
