Seems like Jim is actually getting somewhere with his wrestling stuff, credit to him because I never thought he'd gain any traction with it and he is obviously passionate about it but its going to be very interesting to see how many matches in he'll get before his back gives out.

Fuck me - that Newcastle match is right in the middle of Walker. I don't feel safe walking around there let alone a shrill, obese, nutter wearing Oxfam's curtain section!

I mean, is wrestling other trannies and retards in a warehouse in front of 50-100 autistic wrestling nerds really considered “getting somewhere?” I could be wrong, but I would assume you don’t get paid for this garbage, right?

I don’t think he could ever make it to any premier wrestling league considering that no normal audience wants to see some morbidly obese genderblob in a jumpsuit lumber around a ring like a dying bear...but it’s the UK, so nothing would really surprise me I guess.
Even these small events are a step up from the kind of garbage he did back in the US, even just doing multiple small events like he's done so far is a huge step up from the community centres and shit he's used to. And if Jim is to be believed he has actually made money off this.

And if Jim is to be believed he has actually made money off this.
It'll never fail to amuse me how someone who says Capitalism ruined everything he loves can only make his living from Capitalism, brags about being able to make any kind of living from it and seems to think that it's not Capitalism, but his own charisma and effort that makes him money. Delusions of meritocracy at its finest.

I do believe Jim, but only because of what he's not claiming.

I can easily believe some promoter paid him 50 bucks --maybe even a couple hundred-- because they thought his name might draw some new blood to their tiny shows; people have been paid a lot more for a lot less (pretty sure even no-names like Mersh have managed to get sponsors at some point).

If Jim starts to claim he's making a living doing wrestling, though? Then I'll be pressing X.

New month, new lose, Jim's down 500 bucks and 300 patreons. He will gain subs, he always gets a few back after the intial dip.

There are only two Patreons that I know of that have such rétarded trajectory: Jim's and Alex Mahan's. A drop at the start of the month, then a slow pick up, sometimes with huge jumps up from whales, but usually not compensation for the initial drop, and then it repeats next month.

At most he's only ever said it was 'lucrative' which considering he already earns enough for a comfy life style is probably a couple hundred per show which seems a lot for a side hussle you don't actually need to do to put food on the table.

"Capitalism consumes everything, even communism and anticapitalism, comrade"

Reminds me of that SA post I saw here from a few days ago describing the perfect dystopian hellscape communist paradise.

This hilarious inability to imagine the world without Capitalism (when claiming to do so) and thus failing utterly to engage with core aspects of human beings, societies and so on is so common it actually has a name: capitalist realism. (It has an offshoot in neoliberal capitalist realism, which is more related to an inability to imagine big corpo not being there and not having your best interest at heart).

Yeah if he's being paid anything then he's being overpaid, but I can understand why some tiny wrestling promoter would see a dude with a social media following orders of magnitude larger than their own and think Jim was a sound investment to get eyes on their organisation.

My favourite part was 'the government will provide you UBI' then in the next paragraph 'there will be no money.' This has to be a troll post though, surely? Even Commies can't be this retarded...

Why the fuck would everyone wear the same clothes and have the same hairstyles? Who would trust any government to decide what job suits your "skills". Whose skills stay the same for their entire life? My skills have varied a fuckload - I've got my name on published computer games, then I went into teaching, then translation and photography... if a government assigned me a job based on my skills, I'd be teaching how to take photos of games designers in a different language

I think Jim might be part of a package deal. You take his friends, you also get Jim for free.

That's "video game forum" ResetERA not SA lol, they love Jim's heady takes on the industry and society.

Smart thinking, Jim. He wants to build his wrestling career, but he moved out of the deep south? That's a 4D chess move right there.
On podquisition 389, he mentioned some kind of LGBT(QIA?)+ wrestling. That's what he is doing in UK.

It's been 1 year since I've watched a Jim Sterling video and I don't plan on watching his shit anytime soon. Ever since he trooned out he just seemed bland and boring, after making all the obligatory tranny jokes there really is nothing remotely interesting about him.
Jim Sterling;s career is all due to popularity of the nerd critic. For decades people have loved angry nerds bashing mediocrity in entertainment. Whether that was Siskel and Ebert unanimously panning a Hollywood Turkey or Music Critics trashing a lousy album. When it's done well an angry nerd is just hilarious to watch because it's fun to see a grown adult act like a mediocre Disney movie is quite literally the worst thing in the world. This is one of my favorite pieces of old media, a segment of The Dick Cavette Show where author Erich Segal has a heated conversation with critic John Simon. It's a great debate because it's two very well educated men heatedly arguing over the merits of entertainment that's made implicitly for the masses, the "Hoi Polloi" as they both refer to it as.

But there's a fine line between critic and cynic, and critics have to know what they value in media in order for their critiques to not inevitably descend into miserable nerd nitpicking and autism. Siskel and Ebert would devote almost every episode of their show to a film they loved, whether that was a new release or a film classic, I love this short video Ebert wrote towards the end of his life on the greatness of Citizen Kane. Citizen Kane is a somewhat infamous movie because for all the praise critics praise heap upon it a not so controversial opinion is that it is in fact a boring movie. But in this short video Ebert should be able to make a Citizen Kane hater understand why this movie holds such high acclaim.

The only thing in this world I think Jim Sterling loves is himself. He's turned into a drag queen Ignatius Reilly.

I'll add a third for you: Moviebob. If you look at his full Patreon graph, it's the same sawtooth pattern: big drop at the start, holding steady or maybe a slight gain through the month, then repeating. You actually see it twice since he had a massive boost in patrons (for some reason) after getting fired from The Escapist the second time, only to kill that upward momentum through the whole "Lindsey Ellis gaslit me" saga.

It's a sign of a creator who's past their prime, as people let their subs lapse when their cards expire and forget to renew their pledges. Meanwhile, the creator's content has become stale and lackluster, and because it's unappealing, they can't really get a lot of new blood to come in and replace them. Both Jim and Bob are producing the same exact stuff they have been for years, without doing anything to improve their production values, as newer and better creators are running circles around them. If anything, they're actively making their content worse through their constant politisperging, whether it's Jim's insistence on making everything about troons instead of vidya or Bob's not very thinly-veiled desire to gas all the chuds who dare to disagree with him. The Youtube of today is not the Youtube of a decade ago, and you can only get away with a barely-edited criticism video if you happen to actually be entertaining to a broad swath of people (like, say, a particular drunken Scotsman with a much healthier Patreon than either of them).

Let this be a lesson: if your business is entertainment, you should avoid alienating huge chunks of your potential audience. In other words, don't fuck with your bread and butter.

Pardon my interruption but what the fuck happened to this guy?
I haven't thought about this dude in years but saw a video of his today, now he's calling himself Stephanie and wearing a bad wig, but he also still has his original name on the video?
I genuinely cannot tell if he is just doing a Mrs. Doubtfire type caricature taking the piss, or if he actually claims to "identify as transgender" now. I mean, it looks like he just threw on a wig to be silly but then again 99% of troons look like that nowadays so who knows
I searched the OP of this thread but it doesn't specify either.

eta: Answered my own question by sifting through the most recent pages, apparently he genuinely identifies as transgender. These AGPs really are the epitome of poe's law, my first instinct was absolutely "Man I didn't know you still could get away with making a cross dressing character for comedy purposes nowdays"

Game journalists are all failed journalists who want to work in "real news" it seems. Glorified bloggers.
And technically all journalists are all just failed writers, legitimate hacks who lack the creativity to write a compelling story of their own design and so default to essentially paraphrasing whatever story their higher-ups dictate to them. Jim actually fits this mold perfectly, except for the fact he doesn't seem to have any higher-ups if I'm remembering correctly.

What happened was he quit The Escapist because they were making him vary his topics and keep his videos short, so he left for more creative freedom. Unfortunately this led to him losing fans and interest, so he went trans as a way to deflect criticism.
