I see you don't remember Cash for Clunkers, in which the feds paid people to destroy perfectly good automobiles to try and "jump start the economy" and "go green" at the same time. They are and will be that wildly stupid.
Why trash something that still works? I hear of Americans being wasteful, but never as a literal government policy.

Because economists say that recessions are caused by people not buying things, so if you destroy things, they'll have to buy new things, creating general prosperity. Economics as a discipline is only slightly less scientific than astrology.

From oxous' earlier post:
"The country didn't elect Joe Biden because they wanted a Democratic Donald Trump to go out there every day and divide the country more," said Cedric Richmond, who left his own seat in Congress to serve in the West Wing for Biden's first year. Democrats attacking Biden are "scapegoating the President, or distracted and not focusing on what they should be focused on. He saved democracy once by beating a tyrant. He's doing it again, but he doesn't do it by beating his chest."
Please keep parroting that saved democracy line. I'm sure that's going to be a winning ticket!

I've seen this argument pop up amongst leftists on Twitter in the last few months, several times.

That first image should already set off alarm bells that they're probably a paid shill or useful idiot just by mentioning "Meidas." As in Meidas Touch, the leftist propaganda media group that came along and supplanted The Lincoln Project in terms of blatant gaslighting they love to put on full blast across social media and beyond.

Leftists with Ukraine flags should be deported to Ukraine, so that they can be away from the American Taliban.

And experience a true democracy that acts as a beacon of light and hope for human rights such as the right to be a homosexual or transgender without fear of being genocided and also the right to an abortion as well is respected, unlike how they are being denied in the United States.

Disclosure: I am going off mainstream news reporting on Ukraine and assume the US government under Joe Biden has no reason to lie.

Old, old trick. The EXTREME left did this all the time back in the bubble. (Circa 2010 to the start of GG.)

"The right has gone completely insane and ultra-far right and the US is a center-right nation at best we don't even have a viable communist party ergo we should slide our own views to the left in order to offset the disgusting conservative presence in our nation."

It's how you get takes like "Bernie Sanders is alt-right". It's just a stupid tactic to push their moderates into far and extreme left stances. And it works, as you can see from that graph.

Our economy is built on confidence, and that confidence has been badly shaken in more ways than most people have realized. Activist bureaucrats and politicians funding all they're little pet projects (because never let a good crisis go to waste, folks!) while never having even a basic bitch understanding of economic theory (admittedly, about all I have, but I've read some good books on the subject and at least try to understand some of it) will drag us all down with them and never be held accountable for any of it. Become ungovernable and shit in the urinal, folks. You are the carbon they harp on about reducing. Or maybe I'm just tired and extra cynical tonight.

Besides room for graft and skimming the idea was for the gov to buy old dirty less efficient cars and take them off the road.

I have 2 old Toyota that have the 22RE engine. It's a solid engine design and reliable as all hell.

But I noticed compared to my grandma's Kia soul they feel like gas hogs.

The program also murdered the sub 1000 dollar car market.

Snl had a good sketch about it

Even if it were the truth, and it's not, it's like an RV plummeting off a cliff and when they're sorting the burned and mangled and broken bodies someone pries open the fist of the driver and he's clutching some glass geegaw and people are somehow viewing the whole situation as a net positive because of it.

Who cares? If the plate is registered correctly, cool. If not, then when the cop runs the plate it should show in their system as either out of date or not real. In the case of it not being real, they pull them over, check the VIN (which is all over the fucking car) and use that to see if it was stolen or whatnot.

Idk what they are planning on doing to further combat this non-issue.
Milwaukee doesn't allow cops to pull over vehicles without plates. Hence the new "impound the car even tho its probably stolen and make the owners life even harder" thing to combat reckless driving. Cause cars drive themselves as we've learned from Waukesha.

Eta: there's a doc some White kid put out about the Kia Gang here. Might wanna see if it's on jewtube.

Youse just ain't saying shit. We've been the A number one top of the list most gun-friendly state in the nation for several years running. One of my long time friends (Alan Korwin) has written an encyclopedia of gun law legislation by state and regularly attends anything related, including the Heller case and every SHOT show each year.

But even he's depressed about where AZ is heading.

If (when) I move, it will be to another very gun-friendly state. Northern Alabama, Northern Mississippi and Southern Tennessee are all strongholds and I've been searching few acre properties to get the fuck out of this rat race, cash in on our near Cali property prices, and buy a place for cash there.

Like minds, like communities and they still laugh and point fingers at liberal tranny faggots. Highly recommended.

Tread carefully about northern MS and southern TN. Memphis is a deep blue Detroit mini-me with a long history of aggressively annexing neighboring real estate and some horrifying city/county sales taxes, and a serious gang violence problem it's refused to acknowledge for 30 years. Staying outside the city limits won't save you either -- 20 years ago it turned the Shelby County government into a controlled sock puppet so it could loot it with impunity as anyone not destitute fled. Its crime also spills over outside the official city boundaries, including into some of the towns in MS just over the border. I would recommend at a bare minimum one full county between you and Memphis, if you choose that general area. Tunica County (MS) to the south is also not great, they tried to turn it into a mini Vegas in the 90s but the economic downturn in the early 2000s killed that, don't think it ever recovered. SW TN/NW MS is also very active tornado country, so every spring and summer you get to roll dice on whether or not your house just stops existing. Northern half of west TN and western middle TN are meth country with dead economies, they were reliant on a couple of industries that all left about 15 years ago. Nashville and Chattanooga are growing, but are attracting a lot of pozz from the coasts so TN may turn into a battleground state down the road. Smokies are pretty though.

Might want to take a look at Arkansas if you want to go to the southeast -- it's not attracting the swarms of coastal refugees yet that are hammering TN, isn't as undeveloped as MS, fewer tornadoes than AL, and the Ozarks are pretty, especially around Bull Shoals Lake, if you want to try southern mountains and like fishing. Not a whole lot of an economy, but if you/family are fully retired, it's pretty friendly to that demographic, and you have reasonable access to Little Rock, Missouri, and Memphis if you need something you can't get in the AR countryside.

Fair warning, the humidity will be an adjustment for you as an Arizonan, you might want to visit sometime during June to test it out and make sure it's not a dealbreaker before you move. 95*F might seem like no big deal coming from the Southwest, but it's definitely a different animal when it's 85% humidity instead of 10%. It's like the air is waterboarding you while also trying to boil your brain.

Got it. So there's enough of a forewarning of Depression incoming that there's no way they'll not redefine that to impossibility before the Great Democratic Depression hits?
A econ buddy told me he believes this will be similar to the recession of the 1970's. So even more stagflation, just with shittier music and no bell bottom jeans. Oh and a government body that don't give a flying rats ass about trying to fix anything as they focus on leeching what they can to their personal slush funds and bitching about Trump some more.
(:_(

Remind me, when's the economy marker that will officially indicate whether America is in a recession or not come out? It's been a while since I've seen it discussed.
The GDP advance estimate comes out on July 28, then they refine it over the next two months. If the advance is close to zero, we might not know if we're in a recession for another month or two after that. We're in a recession.

Is there a reason the Fed ignores the cancer besides the obvious of it being the best interest of the current government to delay it until after the elections?

No, I think they'll jump on a depression opportunity to try and pay down some of their debts and pass some policies. The opportunity to sink this away is long past, but a Depression offers a relatively unique opportunity to throw huge amounts of money at 'Important Economic Partners' to ensure their solvency, and if that just so happens to help clear a lot of their political debts, all the better. Similarly, they can declare "Well clearly its not our fault, the economy is fundamentally busted and we must make radical changes" to justify going full hog on fucking with everything under the sun. Whether they have the political capital and the house and senate control required to do anything radical is a different story, but expect a lot of bluster about a great reset decarbonization of the economy or some such bullshit.

Always assume they'll capitalize on every piece of fuckery possible - I'd rather assume competence and be so wrong it hurts from laughing, than assume incompetence and get surprised by something wildly stupid like mandatory vehicle buybacks, gun style, for anything earlier than a 2018 model for environmental reasons.
Problem with Democrats declaring a depression though:

1. The left and their anti-life prophets basically stated during the Trump years that they wanted a Depression to basically punish, via life ruination, the masses for voting in Trump and to send a message to threaten the masses to NEVER EVER EVER fuck with the elites by electing someone they despise ever again. And for a LOT of people, Covid WAS this threat made real given the life ruination the lockdowns and other draconian policies, especially in blue and purple states which pushed the worst of the lockdowns, were concerned. Which leads to....

2. The blame game. NO ONE is going to buy that it was the GOP or Trump's fault that the global economy collapsed. Indeed, especially if Trump or DeSantis DOES get elected in 2024, the left REALLY doesn't want the optics that they nuked the entire economy just to spite the masses fuck shit up to cripple an incoming GOP administration.

3. Finally, global depressions are like a Targaryen giving birth: the Gods flip a coin and you either get fascism as the left are slaughtered in the streets because the masses turn to the strong man who promises to fix shit and murder the people who fucked shit up in the first place or you get various shades of communist hell, from velvet glove communism (New Deal) to iron fist tyrannical communistism (Soviet Union).

Feds are trying to secure and fortify Arizona:

As a non-burger when I first ran across the US voting laws I thought the people who were talking about it were joking. I cannot comprehend how is someone allowed to vote without their ID (and an address card in our case). Not that we don't get voter fraud and fortifications in our little country, but there are at least some pretenses.

Well, you see, it's racist, because Blacks are too stupid to know how to get ID, and since they still are able to vote (as long as they vote for the democrats) despite being effectively brainless cattle only concerned with violence, mindless consumption and having sex (sometimes consensually), we can't require ID because it would prevent these subhumans from being able to vote (for democrats).

In reality blacks are just fine with finding ID and in fact find it somewhat offensive the democrats would suggest they can't, but the REAL reason, left unspoken, is Voter ID laws would prevent a lot of the left's little tricks that they use to "make things fair" (ensure Democrats win) and "get out the vote" (if they vote democrat) and "fight the Republican's attempts at stealing elections" (which exist only in the left's minds as a justification to steal elections).
