A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I know. He has his moments though. In Panodrama when he gets that slimy BBC journalist in the chair and about ten times in a row says "Did you say/do this?" and the guy says no, of course not how dare you and he replies to his team "Roll the next clip" and shows hidden camera footage of him doing exactly that. It's beautiful. One of the most hilarious things I've ever seen.

If missiles were hitting London at least three quarters of the nation would be celebrating.

The big problem we have is how disconnected culturally, politically, and ideologically that place is from the rest of the country. Its not even the murica problem where you have cities vs rural, London is entirely disconnected from even other large cities like Manchester or Birmingham.

Then we pay (a lot) for all our politicians to live in that little bubble and ignore the rest of us until election season rolls around a they suddenly remember they have constituencies (or at least those in marginal seats do).

We don't even get our own politicians anymore, they parachute whatever faggot brownnosed the party leadership best into all the safe seats so you end up in a northern constituency with some London faggot "representing" you. The last time my home town's MP change the parliamentary party overruled the local selection committee and put some southern prick who probably couldn't find the place on a map let alone understand the issues of the area in (of course since massive safe seat and retarded electorate they still won easily after the party had ratfucked everyone involved).

That Nick Griffin question time is still my prime example of why leftists should let "the other side" speak. The BNP was taking council seats and getting MEPs, they probably weren't far from their first MP at some point. Letting Nick go on QT and debate sank them hard. If QT had cucked (like some were trying at the time) like they probably would these days then BNP would have probably been strengthened by the censorship.
 
Griffin was very much an 'okay' leader for the BNP at the time; but was truly dire on Question Time. It's irksome, because the BNP, by and large is about the only party in the last 100 years that has given a shit about the native British people. Griffin himself nowadays when you ask him what he thinks should be done literally just goes 'Get a job, get financially secure, have lots of children, don't be a weirdo on the internet.' Which automatically puts him miles above most of the right wing grifters around the place now.

Blair unironically ruined this country. He broke the balance between the levers of governmental power, and since then we've been flapping in the wind; because our government is set up in a way that is counter to the way it was envisioned to be run.

He nearly died during covid (genuinely, it wasn’t an act) and has been impaired since. That plus his wife keeping his balls in a jar makes him unsuitable. Which is a shame, becasue he could have been alright - he’s intelligent, utterly without scruple and patriotic. One of his campaign promises was a compulsory ‘give ten or so percent of your companies shares to the public’ idea. Literally confiscating private property.
