Nick, expecting to have feelings for girls, suddenly, subconsciously realizes that losing this certain guy friend is unusually devastating. But instead of looking within himself, and accepting his sexuality in a normal, healthy way (even if begrudgingly), he repeats a cycle of being completely clueless and self-deluded, and ultimately, horribly alone and heartbroken.
