bull-barrel Savage
Savage has pretty good CS and can take a look at it. if it's a receiver from 2002-2014 there's a chance that the receiver doesn't have the "meat" forward of the recoil lug for a bull barrel profile (there is a shoulder required for the extra mass). using a stock to float the barrel and put a single point of contact towards the front of the stock to "push up" on the barrel if needed can resolve this sort of issue. a good test method is to use a roll of masking tape and a ball bearing or something and keep adding tape until the group has tightened acceptably but not excessively, then measure the amount of deflection needed to achieve that. then modify the stock to have that same deflection (typically i will use epoxy putty with wood shavings and color-match as needed. if it's a laminate stock it may be uglier, but i find a matte black, round "bump" tends to work well enough.

an aluminum block and pillars can also tighten the group from wandering if the stock has significant flex from the bull barrel (which can give weird harmonics in both wood and synthetic stocks) but if it's a modern Savage, then it's likely already pillared and tightening further isn't the issue.

Also consider .270 instead of .30-06. I have no idea why people still like .30-06 other than "muh garand."
I have no idea why people still like .270 when 7mm bullets are just better. Even at neutered factory pressure, .280 is right there with .270 and with better bullet selection. Handloading just a bit hotter to make up for lower pressures Remington needed for their new round to work in the 740, it outperforms .270.

.270 is available, and it is a known quantity. The hunting types I know are traditionalists to the point of fuddery. Give them a hundred years and we may see them holding onto their 7mm when the Mega-Ultra-Death-Kill Railgun 5000 is the objectively superior choice.

270 recoils a little less than most 7mm calibers, factory ammo costs a little less and you can find it at any store, and it performs just as well under most circumstances when hunting. Heavier 7mm rounds do have the edge at longer ranges, will give them that. That and the bullet selection, yeah.

I'll probably get either 7mm Mag or 300 PRC rifle built for long range, loud noise generation,
Speaking of 7mm's and PRC brand cartridges, Hornady recently submitted an unreleased 7mm PRC to SAAMI.

In addition I would like to submit a question and present a creation.

The question being, why does there not exist a Civilian equivalent of a Wilcox RAPTAR? (For those unaware the RAPTAR is a range finder that mounts to scope rings, pretty cool).

What I would like to present is the following, A mutilated belt fed AK with a 3D printed receiver
More pics + info, uses an AR FCG and a printable top cover is in the works

Lack of demand. Not like a range finder is hard to get.

That and there do exist rangefinding scopes, however reliable they are. Benchshooters are largely static and don't need them, hunters measure distances before going on the actual hunt, and everyone else just wings it with a mentally inscribed PSO graph.

Does anyone know anything about UPS deciding to not ship guns or gun parts any more?
This makes me wonder if my recent call to Sig about finally taking part in the P320 upgrade program and getting absolutely nothing in regards to shipping info was them getting my email wrong or something to do with this...

Slightly clickbait. UPS will not ship unfinished receivers (P80s, 80 percent lowers, etc.) That are unserialized despite the law not being in effect yet. In addition to this, they canceled accounts with companies who sell unfinished frames (despite being currently legal to do so) and threatened to destroy packages from them enroute. I didn't see anywhere that said this bit was more than a threat though.

All this was due to a few of the usual niggers in Congress that made a "muh gun violinz" & "blud on ur HANDZ" bitch fit to the UPS and the fact that their current management lacks a spine (or wants more Blackrock gibs perhaps).

I do recall the same thing happening with FedEx a couple of years back but about shipping firearms in general and their response was "bro, it's legal and everything is to the letter of the law, just leave us alone".

I'd lament that this means dropping a pretty competent and actually usable carrier in favor of a carrier staffed by literal apes, but I have a feeling FedEx will follow soon as well.
