The only way Manchin happens is if he runs and wins without the approval of the party's elites, or the elites give up trying in 2024, or the elites are so fractured that they can't stop him. Basically Obama 2.0... Which would make Hillary running and losing to him in 2024's primary even funnier. They certainly won't LET him in... although there's something to be said about getting him out of the way so they can get a Uniparty man in power in his state instead.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they went with the original Clinton strategy and pushed a relatively unknown southern Democrat governor like John Bel Edwards of Louisiana. He's a political legacy and his father was known as the last of the New Deal Democrats (among other less flattering titles). If they could try and split the conservative vote like in 92, that would work as well. They've got about a year or two to find their Perot/anti-Perot..
