I think it was the Èlan school and it is one of those fucked up places that inexplicably never got shutdown for an absurdly long time despite kids dying there, rampant accusations of abuse, kids disappearing, etc.
Pretty much they took in problem kids for cash and used humiliation, beatings, and starvation diets as a "therapy" tool, along with forcing kids to fight. It was founded by a shrink and a heroin addict (not the same person) in 1970...because any other decade, someone would have pointed out this is a bad idea.
I think it shutdown in 2010 or 2011 because there were constant abuse allegations and the school was always fighting any investigation. It also got to the point that even the most fucked up jurisdictions stopped sending kids there.
I only know about the place because an alumni did a documentary called "the last stop". It's a pretty heavy flick. If you watch the flick and see how a lot of these people never really recovered, I don't know, I kind of respect Mike if his experiences were anything like the other kids, that he came out of it as functional as he is.
