Dramacow FineBros - Copyrighting React Videos Controversy, the Ongoing Shitstorm, Sadly Increasing Subs

That's fucking hilarious.

Its so hilarious that it deserves to be immortalized forever

It would be pretty funny if most of the Fine Brothers' video content gets flagged the next day, and the people they fucked over get compensated big time (except for the other ones who advocated this bullshit trademark of Reaction).

The people whose original content they use in their videos could probably flag them and DMCA them claiming infringement. What they do is the very definition of a derivative work.

I know Crazy Eyes has had something done to... enhance... his face, but what's up with the other guy's head?

Basically they're stopping the whole thing, while claiming they weren't ever going to spam hostile generic takedowns, while declaring they will cancel all existing hostile generic takedowns.

A message from the Fine Brothers
Hello,

We’re here to apologize.

We realize we built a system that could easily be used for wrong. We are fixing that. The reality that trademarks like these could be used to theoretically give companies (including ours) the power to police and control online video is a valid concern, and though we can assert our intentions are pure, there’s no way to prove them.

We have decided to do the following:

1. Rescind all of our “React” trademarks and applications.*

2. Discontinue the React World program.

3. Release all past Content ID claims.**

The concerns people have about React World are understandable, and that people see a link between that and our past video takedowns, but those were mistakes from an earlier time. It makes perfect sense for people to distrust our motives here, but we are confident that our actions will speak louder than these words moving forward.

This has been a hard week. Our plan is to keep making great content with the help of our amazing staff. Thank you for your time and for hearing us out.

Sincerely,

Benny and Rafi Fine

*This includes “React,” “Kids React,” “Elders React,” “Lyric Breakdown,” etc. Please note: It takes a while for the databases to update, but the necessary paperwork has been filed.

**Content ID is YouTube’s copyright system that automatically flags content that looks like or sounds like copyrighted content. This mostly flags videos that are direct re-uploads of our videos (which is what the system is built for), but if you know of a video that has been claimed or removed incorrectly, please email us with “false claim” in the subject line.

Anyone want to guess at the chances their apology is genuine? Or are they just trying to salvage what is left of their reputation?
If they didn't lose so many subscribers they wouldn't be doing this... so yeah, their apology is definitely not genuine. Prior to people's response they just didn't give a shit and weren't planning to stop.

I have a feeling that this is nothing more than a bait-and-switch scheme on their part. If they DO end up regaining the subs they lost, they'll pull off this shit again while no one's looking.

At this point, they should accept the fact that it's too little too late, and give up on "entertaining" people.

Why wait? It's already a bait and switch. The apology has a disclaimer that says they're only cancelling automated takedowns. They'll just hire some interns to manually take down anything that says "react."

True this sums up the whole People vs. Youtube-Viacom when the storm passed. More and more were spamming audio flags, some of your favorite pre-2010 content are likely muted or pulled..
