Disagree. DK was always a slightly goofy character even under rare's control. He mostly acts like typical funny animal character and that cringy as hell 3D cartoon was made during their era. If anything the Nintendo games put way more emphasis in DK's power and make him look way more badass. So this seems like a made up problem to keep pushing the zoomer anti-Miyamoto sentiment.
The game ends with dk fucking dancing
Funnily enough it was jungle beat that turned dk into more of a "badass" with him kong breaking the other kongs

I think what really happened is just that the character became uneven, as I have seen sentiments about the degradation of the Mario cast that extend past DK. Wario is one of the largest examples I can recall as RelaxAlax went hard on how Nintendo butchered him with Smash and WarioWare, but I don’t believe that is the case. I think the real issue is that these characters show a strong level of competency in their main series, but when Nintendo killed their series off, they became more uneven and look terrible as a result.

DK was always a silly character, but the Country games at least made him a competent adventurer who can take on decent sized threats. During the GC, you had DK in Mario spin-offs, where he was mainly played as just a joke, like a majority of the cast, and Konga, which, I mean look at it. There is also games like the Mario vs DK series where DK just regresses back into the villain role Country brought him out of. Outside of DK King of Swing/Jungle Climber and Jungle Beat, DK was basically a joke, a villain, or a gimmick for Nintendo’s shitty barrel accessory. Most of his portrayals had aspects of Country, but never the whole.

I believe a lot of this also extended to Wario, hence the Millennial/Zoomer rants surrounding the 2000s. Wario was a goofy, lazy, and gross character, but his treasure hunting adventures made him look strong and competent. Take out the Wario Land series, and all you have is Wario being a punching bag and fuck up in the Mario sports titles, him being a man that literally takes a dump on people in Smash, and WarioWare where he is mostly just a lazy asshole. Very few really play into Wario’s god tier strength or persistence to be the best. I think this is reflected in arguments like Wario was never about farting till Smash, even though the character being gross was always there through his garlic obsession and gross power ups.

I think in general, the GC era was a weird change period for the Mario cast, and people built up conceptions of them that were not met. This even extends to Nintendo’s employees as Sakurai clearly hates the direction they took Bowser as his vision of the character is that he is the big bad monster, not the goofy single dad Sunshine moved him into.

Oh god they're doing the thing where they break the other person's post into ten quotes and debunk it line by line.
I feel called out. Ironic that it would be from someone called "Too Many Catgirls" though.

Anyway, random subject change.

I've been watching a bunch of videos regarding drama within the Smash Bros community. And ones that go a little bit past "lmao they're all nonces".

I still enjoy the game, but the community is rotten to the core. And not just redditors. The reason why the smash community had such a big issue with predators is pretty much due to the nepotism that's still blatantly on display. Figureheads like Jisu have pretty blatantly lied, and Nairo somehow managed to get away with having sex with a minor.

The main reason Nairo got away with it is because of the circumstances (notably, he was being blackmailed by CaptainZack, a rather notorious player who escapades included dancing like Bayonetta after beating his opponents in bracket and cheating in bracket by setting knockback rate to 0.9x to extend his combos. Zack is definitely a massive asshole, but that's also the reason why Nairo got let off the hook. It was a well-liked pro player being blackmailed by a hated one.

The community is a shitshow, but not for the reason many of the moral arbiters will admit.

Donkey Kong used to be a deep and multi faceted character with character flaws and a real personality

I had to see this, now all of you have to…

Stuff like this is why I don't feel bad when Nintendo does their best to shit on all the Smash e-sport events. They deserve a lot of the pain that Nintendo gives them.

Some of DK's animations and sounds were deliberately realistic, obviously he was always going to be a goofy cartoon ape, but he was more "realistic" or cooler in the DKC games. Compare Rare & Retro's DKC titles to see, it's pretty noticeable.
