I feel like if they did that, they would definitely say something out loud tbh. They'd find a way to spin it so that they didn't feel like it was admitting failure - probably that they're heroes rescuing alpacas and then turning them over to rescues to find new loving homes or some shit and acting like that was the plan all along, something like that. I have a feeling that after a certain time, the people who donate animals and feed to them have seen the desolation of the ranch and flat out told them to reduce livestock humanely or they are going to cut them off.

Phil probably arranged for excess alpacas to be sent back to the rescue organization in order to keep up the ranch’s online reputation and told the other cultists to shut the fuck about it (aka Kevin to not tweet about it). Some other posters have wisely pointed out the ranch probably would of done it for PR but again, that’s like admitting they are in over their head if they are reducing numbers.

That being said, I only think the alpacas donated back were in the tens and that there is probably a significant number of dead alpacas that helped persuade Phil to donate and keep quiet.

For all the experienced farmers in this thread, what are the laws about dead livestock disposal? I doubt they are burying them in the ground because the neighbors could report them for improper animal disposal.

It’s possible in the states that you can bury certain animals, up to a point.
But leaving them to rot in a shredded yurt type structure while vultures pick over the remains is right out, surely.

Like most of the tranch's LARP, this is real but LOL they are seriously larping.

In the Army, you attack a position and as you secure the area, you pat down the corpses for anything useful. You are looking for ammo, weapons, and anything that looks important (maps, lists of names, plans, etc) that gets collected and sent back up to intelligence. They are also mixing in the unconventional forces thing where you take their stuff to keep your unit in the field longer, which is the only reason anyone would take your enemy's first aid.

Again, this makes sense when you are part of larger force that is primarily taking areas. The Tranch is not that force.

The state government has a document about this. An "all hazards event" is some kind of mass weather disaster or disease outbreak or something, there's some flexibility in the rules under those situations because it's not reasonable to expect people out in the boonies to have their dead animals taken care of properly during a thirty foot blizzard that paralyzes the area:

Custer County doesn't appear to have anything specific but the landfill doesn't bother to list anything about farm/ranch waste so I would assume they probably don't officially take it. I would probably doubt that local officials would care much if you buried a couple animals a year randomly, especially if nobody noticed at the time. I'm not even sure that any mass graves would be the largest of the Tranch's problems if state and county officials had to investigate them though it might be the most concrete evidence (outside of Kevin) of their crimes against humanity.
