Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

This is actually a good point.
Why are these people taking these highly attack-driven animals and assuming they can train and keep them as pets and protection?

This makes me want to lump them in with all of the people who own or want to own feral and/or exotic animals. And even that you need a license for that. Some places don't even allow this or certain animals are banned from being owned. How is a Pitbull different from a tiger in the sense of human ownership? I am sure a tiger COULD take down an intruder, but do you REALLY want to risk yourself and your family in that process? At least the Tiger is natural. Honestly this is even a bad analogy because wild animals are not bred to fight in pits. Even bear dogs aren't this aggressive toward humans.

The difference here is people have this belief that an animal being domesticated somehow makes it no longer an animal. Too many people are sheltered from actual contact with nature, and more close to the point, experience with how different the behavior of pets can be.

I've heard that there are still proper breeders that produce decent enough staffordshire terriers, but the biggest issue I think has been all the ghetto backyard breeders just breeding for meanness and gameness. The breed may just be completely ruined at this point and the humane thing would be ban breed and spay/neuter the remaining ones. And make breeding them an automatic capital offense. The sad thing is the hoodrats/white trash would just go fuck up another, better breed.

Family was in bed with their 3-day old newborn and their pitbull mix. At some point the "mother coughed" which sparked the attack. First thing it made eye contact with was the infant. Baby was pronounced DOA when taken to the hospital.

Were these humans "bad"? Were they the reason this attack happened?

In most cities you don't expect to see a tiger walking around. In cities there are many pitbulls. As much as I would love to cross the street every time I see one, it sometimes isn't viable. You have some basic expectation that dog owners will have control of their dog. Dogs will also flail when they want to go after a mouse or bird too. That doesn't mean it is going to attack you. I have a medium sized dog and sometimes she hops around but THEN playbows because she wants to play (puppy still training). Guess you better street cross though because any form of "thrashing" is aggression in a dog.

Don't get me wrong, it IS very important to be situationally aware, especially with pits, but to say the guy should have known better when the dog was on a leash and had a muzzle is totally different. How was he supposed to know the dog's entire setup would just slip off like that? The lady should have had a proper harness on her dog. I have one on mine (not a pit) and it doesn't even need it. Get a better muzzle on that thing, get a proper leash with a GOOD sturdy handle. Don't cheap out especially when the dog is 3x you. Don't get a leash with a cheap clasp that will break, don't get a leash so thin it will snap, don't get those cheap collars with the plastic clips (get the belt-style clasps), etc. This is all on the owner.

We shouldn't have to avoid THEIR monster dogs. If you bow every time then that just gives them more of an excuse to get one. They should have to watch out for US. Don't make excuses for them.

The prevailing opinion from people I've spoken to IRL and most especially from what I've seen online is almost always in favor of "Pitbull rights" and the rights of their owners. Always with the victim-blaming first - i.e. "person should have known better than to startle, run by, excite, be near, be in the vicinity of the pit" - and then with the idea that "it's not the breed it's how they're raised" and when challenged on that one with cases where the dogs were never abused and raised up as pups in a loving home they go for their final "argument": Racism.

Ok, retard, I'll bite (no pun intended). The sidewalks are for human pedestrians, on two feet. This includes children, babies, adults, the elderly, etc. Any animal of any kind - leashed or not - is there by the grace/will of the people. This also rightfully excludes retards on bicycles, scooters, skateboards, segways and motor vehicles of any kind. The sidewalks are for walking human beings and walking human beings only (besides baby carriages/wheelchairs, of course - because don't be a bigger tard and try to make that argument, don't even).

Leash laws exist for this reason. But whether or not the owned animal is on a leash is actually redundant. Leash laws exist for beasts like dogs and other large/dangerous animals to assure they will be kept under the owner's control at ALL TIMES. If you, as the animal owner, take your beast out into the public it is your responsibility at all times to keep your beast controlled. It is not the responsibility of the general public to LOOK OUT FOR YOU. Fucking. Selfish. Narcissists.

I could also go back to what I said earlier, about sidewalks being meant for walking pedestrians, and walking pedestrians ONLY. It is not OUR responsiblity to be looking out for some asshole on a bike or skateboard mowing us down from behind because they DO NOT BELONG on a side"walk" in the first place!
