Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

The good side is that this was so badly received, the next in line to get the rights for distribution of the Sailor Moon IP preferred to just fork over the extra money that Toei asked for the original anime's localization and distribution.
Thank god for DIC, there, I suppose.

Another fun fact: Carl Macek was also interested in bringing over Sailor Moon to the West, and he envisioned a straight localization effort that respected all the Japanese elements of the series. The characters would retain their original names, the setting would be very much in Tokyo instead of a nondescript city in North America, etc. Essentially, he'd do what Viz did not too long ago.
I miss Carl. I feel for every piece of shit people gave him for how he handled his business, he was at least finding a way to take anime out of the niche, backroom closets of fandom and into the mainstream it hardly found its way into.

WHY IS AMERICA THE ONLY COUNTRY THAT HAS GUN PROBLEMS!?!?!

Gee? I don't know? Maybe because the so-called gun reforms are gun bans and they wanna ban all guns so they can turn America into a prison planet basically Attack on Titan with them big walls so no one gets in or out. Ironic these faggots think America has a shooting problem when the former leader of Japan got murdered live on TV and he was shot by a 41-year-old nigga that made his own gun and it worked. It's not the guns that you should be worried about? It's criminals and monsters that will not follow laws to kill more people. Trust me the Mexican Cartel is going to have new money in the black market for illegal guns if Biden bans them knowing both sides of political powers want that to happen. And in 2022 people can just create their own DIY guns rather than try and buy them anymore. Deep Web exists for the black market so try and you might but more people will die without guns than with guns you clowns.

Can mostly confirm this. No warnings whatsoever, but they simply don't air controversial shit at all. They maintained this policy down here even during CN's heyday in the late 90s and early 2000s, I remember those times very well.
For instance, they never aired the infamous Buffalo Gals episode of Cow & Chicken. And a good portion of those Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry and other old-school shorts that dealt with racial stereotypes, like blackface? Big nope on those too.

The same thing happened with Nickelodeon. Ren & Stimpy was considered so juicy and crass, it only aired on the MTV cartoon block together with stuff like Beavis and Butt-head. The usual cuts on Rocko's Modern Life were also there in certain bits.
A friend tells me that in every other country on Earth but the U.S., even Canada, Rocko airs with the bits that have been snipped out on the DVDs left in. This is definitely the case with the BluRay of the series they released in Germany.

So hey, that animated Airbender movie? It’s about older Aang and friends.

Looks fun but the existence of Korra still spoils stuff like this. I'm still annoyed at the jump in tech and industry between those two series. Way to squander a ton of potential and a ton of other potential historical ages to go through just to satisfy your 1920's America fetish. With mecha.

i'll just say it was "plausible" and leave it at that

Hopefully they'll skip forward a few generations if they ever make an Earthbender Avatar. They should stop giving a shit and just do something like a 90's Avatar.

True to an extent in South America. I recall they didn't cut the part where Rocko pinches a bear's ballsack thinking it was a bush berry. And all those double-entendre jokes and visual gags went by unnoticed because they mostly got lost in translation. They also never cut on that one episode where Mrs. Bighead tries to seduce Rocko, but rarely, if ever, aired the episode where Heffer gets "milked". They did cut the "early departure" joke in that one road trip episode, but that's likely because the localization team received the original tape with the cut already in place.

Generally speaking, down here it is up to the network to decide what gets cut and what goes ahead. I remember when The Simpsons started to air on Globo's normal cartoon block in the morning, they cut almost every scene that showed, implied or just mentioned sex, hard drugs and violence.

Also, we don't have much of a culture of purchasing DVDs and BluRays of series of any kind, so outside of the truly successful franchises everyone talks about, they never release physical copies of more niche stuff. This is Brazil, where piracy is pretty much the norm to get what we want.

I unironically had one of these because I didn't know any better. It was in a bargain bin along with Street Fighter EX 3 for the PS2 in like MACYS of all fucking places, so I bought both of them.

It's a poor man's Game Boy with "phone/pda" features. I had Sonic Jam and Henry (which was a matching game). People always say it's one of the worst handhelds ever made, but personally i got some enjoyment out of it. It was a fine time killer. Nothing more, nothing less.
