Even with the other powers, the coastal proximity limits things. Chinese anti-ship missile technology is unproven in combat, but even if its not particularly effective, it can reach out to anything trying to block the strait easily enough, and they're gonna have an assload of them. The American navy is not gonna want to park itself anywhere close during an active conflict scenario for any protracted period, not without putting troops or air power directly onto Chinese soil to establish a cordon. That leaves them with parking on the other side of the island, likely limiting the navy to supporting roles via air power and cruise weapons, the former which can be contest and the latter which is limited in supply, only got so many missiles while staying on station. Navies best bet for maximizing the odds that Taiwan doesn't collapse is putting Marines on the island to support the local defenses, while their air power contests the skies and harries landing operations.
If its any consolation, this does go both ways, the Chinese wouldn't be able to get too close to the island with their own fleets without risking American carrier forces sinking them. China's gonna be limited to their coastal projection out to the strait in general as far as "guaranteed" avenues go, everything else would be upset victories in the fact of expected results (And to be fair, look at the Ukraine wars early predictions to now) or US incompetence or political hesitancy letting them take opportunities that coulda been stopped.

The main (and by main I mean almost exclusive) demographic for Yang's Forward Party is moderate liberals and centrists who dislike Democrat leadership and don't think Republicans are a threat to democracy. Which is to say he probably won't be splitting off very many votes.
E: Well actually now that I think of it, I think Yang might also have an opprotunity with San Fran technocrats who've been living in a blue echochamber so long that they think it's fine to experiment with third parties.

Honestly the Forward Party probably has a high chance to reach amount the same amount of success Yang's presidential election campaign in 2020 and his New York mayoral campaign did. Which is to say: not much. It wouldn't surprise me if the Greens or Libertarians got more votes over it.

The communist states of old, were bad enough and we all know the evils of them. Not contented to relegate themselves to yesteryear's deadly utopia, the left has dreamed a cacophony of dreams. Perpetual revolution has never been so ingrained.
Radical De-Industrialization policies, set to save the Earth, will by necessity extinguish and expunge vast swaths of humanity. This of course is not a bug, but a feature. Humanity must return to balance with nature after all, and that must mean obliterating humanity's dominance of the planet.
Redistributive Economics and Justice plunders the Kulak to enrich the Apparatchik. There is not and will never be a peasant too poor to be looted, nor a functionary too well-heeled to deserve another helping. The Left will always expropriate more than can be given, and the serf must starve because of his privilege.
Family is a tool of oppression. By giving birth to children, the parents are exploiting them. By gendering them, the child is abused. Sterilizing early is life, and pregnancy at any age is tantamount to death. The State will ensure that these poor theybies grow up right. After all, the parents can't be trusted, they had the child in the first place.
I want a future for my descendants, not just my children, or my grandchildren, but my posterity as a whole. The slow death of compromise may not affect me, but what about 50 years from now? What about a hundred or more? And yet even as that slow death was coming, the left has decided that wasn't fast enough. The new utopia must come now.
I must fight now, to preserve any opportunity at all for my children and their children to have a shot in this damned eternal war.

It's has terrified me in the last two years just how easily people will believe what they are told by "their side."
I know it's an overused analogy, but this really is the chapter in 1984 where The Party switches the opponents of their never-ending war midspeech and everyone just goes along with it.
