I'm surprised no one we know of has tried that already. It's likely easy to get a job at Chris's jail, at least in my county there are signs all over town for the jails. They need corrections officers and pay starts at $20 an hour. It's been really hot lately and the heat has been a factor in people quitting because most jails here aren't air conditioned.

I checked corrections.com but the website didn't work for me, and both ironically both browsers I used said the site isn't secure. Indeed.com does have a job listing and says they are urgently hiring multiple candidates. They also need a cook.

Assuming Chris gets several years, by the time he gets out Barb will likely be dead by then, (not that he'd be able to see her again without someone else in the room anyways) and the house repo'd so he's not going inside 14BC again, (then again I can totally see Chris committing trespassing), even if Chris somehow changed his ways and wanted to get a job, nobody is going to hire someone on the wrong end of his 40s that never really had significant employment in his life and he's a registered SO, most felons lives post release are hell even if they're rehabilitated.

In short, homeless saga will happen after Chris gets out of prison.

Yeah a lot of people just don't want to believe such depraved things happen, politicians and the legal system included. Especially in the past, when things were arguably less fucked up than today.

But still, pervs were/are punished, even if there are no exact laws against it. A zoophile might not get tried for bestiality, but he will get tried for mistreating an animal. A cannibal might not get tried for eating a human, but he will get tried for defiling human remains and obviously for murdering his victim. Et cetera.

Passing a specific bill, like an anti-bestiality law for example, will pile up more charges against the criminal and will (hopefully) result in more severe punishment, but such a specific law doesn't necessarily need to exist in order to charge such a perv with some kind of unlawful action.

I think the range for a Class 5 felony in Virginia is 1-10 years, not 7-10.
