So this stupid news story was just going on and on and ON yesterday morning made me turn off the TV before I was even ready to go to work. This is the shorter evening news version:
Short version, two different black families posted videos of their children being ignored by costumed characters in a parade. Now they're suing.
The morning show had some talking head going off that he didn't buy the excuse that wearing those costumes is difficult. He called for immediate action and...drumroll...training.
What's more believable, that grifters gonna grift by stationing themselves in a spot where they're going to get skipped / cherry picking video footage? Or that Sesame Street, with it's LONG history of what could be called social justice, a property that has added autistic and other "marginalized" characters and has gone completely woke, still manages to hire comically racist employees to tromp around in costumes that serve as the public face of their characters? Really?!?
The greatest harm being done here is that now these workers are going to have to endure even more workplace bullshit training and scrutiny for what is arguably one of the worst public-facing jobs. (I might be biased. I had a friend who had some real dramatic stories about his time doing this kind of job.)
If this story required ten minutes out of the prime spot of the morning news, then there must not be that much institutionalized racism actually going on.

Back in 2015 they released Choice of Petal Throne. Petal Throne is set in the universe of Tekumel, written by M.A.R Barker. During the time of Tolkien, Barker also created his own world that's a mixture of Egyptian, Indian and Mesa-American cultures, he was also a lecturer of South-Asian studies at the university of Minnesota where Gary Gygax was developing his D20 system, which piblushed his world in an RPG form in 1975. Very bronze age setting. The thing is that his estate opened up the universe for anyone to write in as long as royalties were paid, Choice of Petal Throne is a result of this.

Almost all of these are dumb and the underlying sentiment is just completely stupid but I just wanted to point out that Star Trek isn't remotely anti-capitalist nor pro-vegan, it's just theoretically post-scarcity. And it's not even really that because typically only Earth (and maybe places like Vulcan) is shown to be actually approaching post-scarcity.
TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager all display that things you can't replicate are tremendously valuable and trade freely, they even show that things you can replicate do so. Take "The Trouble with Tribbles", the Federation is trading grain (presumably easy for the Federation to replicate) for goodwill with other species and that's why the Klingons want to sabotage it. Quark sells everything from food and drink (presumably easy to replicate elsewhere on DS9) up to Holosuite time including to Starfleet members and that's just one shop on the Promenade.
It's weird to promote a show basically only about Starfleet officials (except DS9) as blatantly (and especially "far") "left-wing" considering Starfleet is, you know, the military. The Federation prefers "peace" (except all those many times it doesn't), a more open society and, yes, more free trade, because that is its cultural advantage over the militaristic Klingons and the totalitarian Romulan and Cardassian Empires. Think about the two most difficult antagonists of the Federation, the Dominion and the Borg, neither one has any interest in what the Federation can offer culturally or economically while the nearby Alpha Quadrant powers all at least have interest in some manner of the Federation economic, scientific and cultural output which helps to ensure peace over time and even alliances no matter how many times Kirk or whoever blows up a couple of their ships. That's an anti-capitalist message? Or is it the core argument of the liberal capitalist advocates from Smith and Locke to today?
These people claim to be fans of things and adherents of ideologies both but seem determined to prove they've never actually engaged with either beyond consooming.

Why it’s B’Ivory Lamarr! Who represented Theodore Edgecomb and almost single handedly got his client sent away for probably life. Along with being guilty of numerous ethics violations in court and apparently not knowing parts of the trial procedure.
TLDR: Edgecomb was your average criminal Nog who killed an immigration lawyer (lol!) and afterwards disappeared for six months “looking for legal representation”. (LOLOL!) When they finally found him five states over, he lied and tried to use the name “Baboo Neuman”, and presumably made the arresting officer chuckle.
Now if you say: “That Edgecomb guy sure sounds like a low iq NigNog!” You’re right.
Edgecomb’s next brilliant move was to hire a discount Al Sharpton: B’Ivory Lamarr to represent him, despite the fact that Lamarr was fresh out of law school and had never done a serious criminal trial.
During the trial Lamarr, to nobody’s surprise, tried to turn the murder of a super lob BLM supporting criminal lawyer into a shitshow all about RAYCISSM.
This included claiming that the victim had called Edgecomb “nigger” half a dozen times, and insinuating that the widow acted suspiciously and tried to hide a knife that nobody ever saw.
Absolutely not surprised to see Lamarr try to milk this one for $$$.

My favorite moment during the Edgecomb trial was probably when they tried to submit some Facebook posts into evidence that their paralegal had just printed right there in the courtroom.
And we’re shocked when the judge slapped them down, apparently not knowing that there’s a whole procedure to follow regarding evidence, including having stuff certified.
(You read that right! The man took on a murder trial, despite apparently having only cursory knowledge of trial procedure!)
My second favorite moment was when it turned out their paralegal had pretended to be a police investigator to a witness.
Lamarr is like the civil rights version of sn ambulance chasing lawyer.
