Pretty much this, in my defense being a Mexican means that 70% of what my country produces is bought exclusively by the USA, so if we are talking economics there's very little difference between puerto rico, Hawaii and Mexico

Now they might try to play argentine/falkland with taiwan to get some political capital. But after seeing what happened with ukrain and russia good luck.

Everything I ve read is that local goverments get revenue from the leases of the land for devoplment.

Remember china doesnt really allow private land ownership instead its 70 year leases and no one is sure what happens at the end of those leases.
