I've noticed that there are hundreds of books on the market talking about treating acute illness (bone breaks, cuts, trauma, chest wounds, swamp feet) but there are not a lot of resources for chronic illness.

thats because treatment for chronic illness is way outside the scope of what you can realistically do in an emergency/apocalypse situation. it requires an industrial medical system to treat, and even then the treatment is usually not very effective.

on the plus side, apocalypse will make you starve and cut your sugar intake down a lot, so at least your diabetes will resolve itself.

Yeah they really only are validated to take the edge off severe depression (and kick people with a manic-depressive gene they otherwise may have never noticed into some degree of mania, which is unhelpful at best.) Once you get to the point it's let up enough for you to get out of bed and take regular showers, you have to get the rest of the way out yourself.
